Canayjun, EH!
« on: January 21, 2008, 04:48:52 PM »
An American couple is standing in an airport terminal somewhere in the States, waiting for their luggage.  The wife happens to notice an oddly dressed man also waiting nearby.

She asks her husband where he thinks the man is from.  The husband says he doesn't know, so he decides to ask the man and approaches him.

"Where are you from?"  … he asks the man.

"Saskatoon, Saskatchewan" … he replies.

Puzzled, the husband returns to his wife.

"Well, where is he from?"  … asks the wife.

"I don't know" … replies the husband.

"He doesn't speak English …"

Bob;  One summer at Dundern, I helped organize a gopher race.  Talk about prairie pleasures!

I moved to Saskatchewan 28 years ago.  Drove through a full blown dust storm between Regina and Saskatoon.  Knew I had come to a unique part of the world when I turned on the TV the next weekend to a local channel and watched a "demolition derby" with...............combines!

Back in 1975 we were on transfer from the Maritimes to Saskatchewan.  We decided to take the American route and somewhere in southern New York State we stopped in a small town for lunch.    We parked right next to a picnic table and right across the street was a greasy spoon.

Our boys were one and three at the time and my wife was going to feed them a ready made lunch.  Meanwhile I went across to the greasy spoon to order our take out lunch for my wife and I.

Inside, was a guy behind the counter with an apron on and an old guy sitting at the counter sucking on a beer.  I placed  the order and while waiting, the guy with the apron asked me if I was in the military (judging by the hair cut and assuming I was an American ).  I replied that I was and, he asked where I was stationed.  I said, "I'm on transfer from Cornwallis, Nova Scotia to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan."

He stopped cooking and glanced at me for a second, then went back to cooking without saying a word.  The old guy sucking on a beer turned his head, looked at me for about 5 seconds then went back to nursing his beer and never said a word.

No other conversation took place, I paid for the order and left.

I often wondered if they thought I was just being a smart a$$ or that I didn't understand english that well. :D

I've got one.

I went on a harvest crew in the summer of 1999.  We were in a town called Vici (pronounced v-eye sigh) Oklahoma.  One day while filling the service truck with fuel for the combines, one of the local old boys strolled over and had hisself a look at the truck.  It read.

Golden Hill Harvesting
Hafford Saskatchewan,
Canada
USDOT (whatever the numbers were)

He says to us. "Yewall from Canada?"

And I reply "Well yes sir we are."

"Huh." he surmises "Well I always wondered what a Canadian looked like.  You don't look too much differn't than us Okies."

Then away he went.  I love Okies, they were the most wonderful people.  True story.
