He was adjudged unfit to stand trial by reason of insanity. He was sentenced to the State Mental Hospital in Rusk, Texas. He never was tried for the offense and he died in the hospital. He was in his late 60s when he was sentenced. The officer made a complete recovery.

It happened at shift change, the day shift was ending. I was at the police station waiting for my unit to arrive for the evening shift.
