Colt Lightning revolver with modifications
« on: March 16, 2024, 03:04:27 PM »
Here is my newly acquired Colt Lightning that has had the grip altered to more of a SAA grip, and it has been sleeved to .22 LR.      S/N - 10xxxx   Not bad for under $400, I feel.

I wonder if that was a movie prop?  I know they used to mock up double actions as SAAs for Westerns where the actor wasn't going to be able to operate a single action fast enough.  The Lightning would seem like a great choice with it's similar profile and ejector.  Nobody would be expected to notice the slightly different frame.

      Greetings!

When I was in my 'teens, my neighborhood Gun Shop had a fairly nice Colt's 1877 that had been very professionally reworked / sleeved to .22LR; the gunsmith had stamped his name on the bottom of the barrel. I cannot recall his name.
A "few" years later, I saw a write-up in The American Rifleman's "Dope Bag" (?) that mentioned two gunsmiths that had "specialized" in converting Colt's 1877s to .22RF.
I regret not buying that 1877... RRIO, I send You a Hearty BRAVO!
