Labs make such great family members.
It is a shame they can't be with us longer.
But, they will be there to greet us with their normal joyfulness, when our time comes to cross that river.
Sorry for your loss...
My best,

Also sorry , I feel the pain ....

Jake has to go to the Vet Thursday , he has small bump on his head about the size of an Aspirin.
My daughter a Vet in training , thinks it should be looked at, and she works at the Vet Hospital where she's taking him....
We want to be sure it's benign.

Sorry to hear of your friends crossing, Buck and Slim; It's not an easy thing, no matter how many times you go through it.

Thanks for the memories, Del; I've put what seems like a million miles under my wheels in my lifetime, a great many of them accompanied by Tom T. Hall and his music and stories.  That one is one of my all time favorites.

Howdy y'all.  I got the pot on for you early risers.

Sorry to hear about your dogs, gents.  I too am familiar with the situation.

Well, the "S-word" hit Californee yesterday.  About an hour of it, though none stuck.  temperatures were in the 10s for most nights since the last time i was here.  Tonight is supposed to be warmer at 25. :-\

Anyway, just thought I'd poke my head in, remind you that I'm still kicking.

I’m so sorry for the loss you both have suffered.  I have suffered for every friend I have had to be the care giver for and recipient of their affection over the years.

A roast is in the crock-pot preparing to be chimies and burritos for supper tonight.

Cloudy right now and about 50.  Tomorrow is a 90% chance of rain or snow or both.

Been sitting here watchin’ a mass of leaves go blowing by in the street in the front of the house.  Our street ends at the cross street on the side of our house with houses privacy fences and garages lined up facing the oncoming wind (20 mph gusts to 50+).  Went out and looked to see what was happening to all the leaves, but they seem to just disappear at the end of our street.

Waiting now for the rain and snow to slip over the hill and start getting us wet.

The neighbor across the street has inflatable yard decorations (a Santa, Snoopy and a penguin).  They are deflated and staked down quite well, but they are definitely getting whacked up and down on the lawn.

Got a tenderloin for New Year’s Eve.  It was so big I cut six steak off it and still have enough for the Beef Wellington on New Year’s.  Going to grill up two of the steaks for supper tonight, to test out the meat.

The wife is busy making Fairy Food.  Don’t know what else it’s called, but it involves Kayro syrup, baking soda, vinegar and whatever else, heated to a precise temp.  Poured into a baking pan and allowed to foam up.  Then it cools it gets broken into pieces and coated with chocolate.  The smell of boiling vinegar has permeated the house.  :P :P  If the weather were a little better Jake the cat and I would have retired to the great outdoors ‘til the house airs out.

Can't stand hot vinegar myself,Rus-T :P But I have to put up with it to clean out my coffee maker every few months.

We brought our little girl's ashes home last night. They're on the top shelf of the bookcase now along with her collar and tags. I really miss that tap on my leg when she had to go out :-\

The weather is still holding on the warm and windy side.  Did the last round (I hope) of foliage recovery yesterday.  Filled seven more garden bags with pine needles and leaves.  The trees are lookin’ naked enough now that we should be done for the year.

The steaks cut from the tenderloin came out great!  Very tender and tasty.  One more cooking day for me (Wednesday) before I ship the wife off to Wisconsin for Christmas.  Then I’m on my own for a while.  It’ll include my required trip to Outback Steakhouse while she’s gone.

Got about 2”of wet sloppy white stuff last night.  Got out and cleared the driveway so the folks coming to remove the sleeper sofa from the den and the love seat from the living room can get up to the door.  The pine tree in the back has enough snow that it has developed the droops on a couple of boughs that are blocking my way to the grill.  Need to take care of them so I can grill my tenderloin steak for supper tonight.

We got to 67 today, but had light showers at times. Ran around some today looking at the Humane Society and the Tusc. County pound. Thought maybe we could find a deserving pup to fill a void in our hearts. Alas, the one we thought might be deserving was adopted by someone else and the other lead( long coat black and tan dachsy) turned out to be an 8 year old bonded pair which we could only have taken one and couldn't be separated :-\

Rain here today-was sunny for the last several days while I worked, now I'm off for 2 days and.....

Power went off at noon due to some big transmission line problem, right at the end of Church, we were warned ahead of time because one of the members is a lineman. Still off when we got home. Rope on the generator broke on the third pull. Fished it out, got generator started with the short rope. Came back in the house to find the power back on. Make mental note to get new rope for the generator.

No real rain here so far, just occasional "misting rain" but quite a bit cooler. Fired up the Farmall A and cut a wagon load of wood, will do another if the rain stays away.

Well,Susie found a deserving little girl. A little pekinese mix that needed a new home. Blond, 7 months old. She's fixed and chipped, and approximately the same size as our long coat dachsy. Named Chloe. We now have to get the dachsy to accept her. Not going well at the moment, but the other two have no problem with her, though. Don't know if she barks yet, haven't heard a peep out of her ::)

Hey y'all.

Almost done with final exams!  Just two more days, and I'm off until the 19 of January.

Weather update:  Chilly with a chance of cold.  Depending on who you listen to, it's supposed to get down around 0 next week, with negatives up north by the lake(opposite of the lake effect.  All the cold air from the alps runs down the valleys and gullies, and collects in the town of Trinity Center.  When Weaverville has 2-3" of evil stuff, they typically are working on 5+ feet), and on top of the mountains.  Looking at some precipitation at the same time.  Could get fun. :-\

Hey y'all,

I'm pretty much done with school until after the turn of the half-decade(yes, I'm poking fun at the "youthfully challenged" there.).  One more assignment tomorrow, and I'm a free man.  I do have two essays (standard 3-page MLAs) to finish before January 12, but those are for scholarships, not grading.  ;)

Another bit of excitement is a surprise visit from my grandmother.  She was supposed to be here Saturday, but showed up randomly today while we were eating lunch.  So my mother took off with her, and left my two younger siblings with me to go to the school Christmas party, and drive home from the city.  Got interesting going over the mountain in 30 foot visibility...

And the final (perhaps most interesting) piece of information I have is that I sold my 1911.  I took a loss on it. but only about $100.  So the money from that is being put toward a new S&W M60 PS.  I'll work the rest off over the next month. (did I mention that I've started working at a gun shop?)

Christmas gifts that is, Rita did the quilting and pinning, I just sewed them all together.   They are lined, I went through about 400 yards of thread, about 2/3 rds of 2 spools.   Works good that way, i keep my main sewing machine tuned and lubed well and can really turn stuff out if she does the prep.   I guess our dining room is Rita's sweatshop.

My project was to did all the cast iron I've collected over the years for cheap or free and clean it up and season it.   My daughters and SD, 2 nephews and a niece get to take turns picking what the want, need to sort more in the cupboard and figure out what I'm actually keeping.  Got two 15" skillets, two 12" chicken fryers, 3 stove top dutch ovens, sauce pans with lids and bread pans, none in the picture that ain't going out of my kitchen.   Will likely keep 3-4 of the smaller skillets.

Desk top don't have good volume.  Also if I get a bunch of windows open doing research Pandora slows it down.

If the rain eased up a bit, it might be raining cats and dogs. As it is, more like raining cows and horses. Water over the road all over the place.

Wife's got a tablet she uses more than the laptop. She uses it for music, but downloads, not streaming. When you use satellite for internet, streaming anything will eat your data up! If you want to get better sound quality than the tablet speaker gives, you can get one of those small wireless speakers to go with it. Sound's better that way.

Made it back from Milwaukee without a hitch.  The weather was very unseasonal (rain Monday and Wednesday, temps in the mid to upper 40's all week).  America Airlines got me there and back in fine shape (don’t know what United might have done to me).

Got back to a layer of snow and temperatures hovering right above and below freezing.  Still managed to grill some chicken outside last night.  The house/cat sitter kept everything together quite well.

I had cleared out the old furniture in prep for delivery of our new sectional, and now they are pushing out the delivery date from the purchase date by about 9 weeks.  Told the wife I won’t go near an Ashley store for the rest of my life.  Oh well!

Somebody's inventory computer really goofed,Russ-T :o

In the 30's with a right cold rain :P Got myself pretty damp doing rounds this morning. ::)

Got Cissy interred at our oldest boy's place Saturday. Finally hit the SIL yesterday after she backed off the new meds VA put her on. The new pup is getting to be quite a character. Helped me fold clothes yesterday( snitched my socks). Have decided that the pound didn't really know what she was. Believe now that she's a Lhasa mix, mixed with what don't know. ::)Her new alias is PP( Pound Puppy) ;D

Yes I'm naughty, Santa always brings me coal, I trade it to my blacksmith for finished product.   ;D

Campfire discussion from last summer on lid lifters, he just dropped it by, asked what else it needed, nothing, it is perfect.  By a phone book and with a 14" deep.
