I've got a Cimarron SAA that I'm probably going to swap out the barrel and cylinder. Before I post a WTB, what barrels/cylinders will fit? Nothing in my stash of vintage parts is correct.
Thanks,
Jim

As far as barrel threads, I think only Uberti (and probably USFA) will fit.
Edit: I assumed your gun is Uberti, though Cimarron does also sell Pietta.

:) Hey LongWalker ;)
Abilene is correct. The only thread match for Barrel fitment is Uberti (USFA) and same same for the Cylinder.
The other important part is A.) Clocking the Barrel as it may not sign up the sight without some machine work. B.) Setting the Cylinder Head Space (FIRST), Then adjusting the cylinder Bushing for correct End Shake.
Installing the barrel is actually the very LAST step. Until you have correctly clocked the barrel, you can then set Barrel to Cylinder gap.

A 1st or 2nd generation Colt barrel will also fit.

I have been lead to believe that those Colt barrels will fit a Pietta, but not Uberti.

Greetings my dear Netizens....
from my notes, shamelessly stolen from all over the web, I have found the following information:
1ST & 2ND GEN COLT 20 TPI
3RD GENERATION COLT 24 TPI
Colt SAA First, Second and Third Generation barrel thread specification
The barrel shank and thread specification for the
first and second generation Colt Model P Single Action Army revolvers are:
Shank overall length: .699"
Length of threaded portion of shank (shoulder to breech end of thread): .580"
Thread specification: .695" x 20 tpi
The barrel shank and thread specification for the
third generation Colt Model P Single Action Army revolvers is:
Shank overall length: .699"
Length of threaded portion of shank (shoulder to breech end of thread): .568"
Thread specification: ..683" x 24 tpi
======================================
USFA barrel threads & 1st Gen clones) are the same at 20 TPI x .695” + or- tapered thread,
3rd gens* are 24 TPI x 11/16” (.681” + or —)
=====================================
Uberti barrel thread spec 11/16" (.6875") - 20tpi,
Pietta barrel threads are metric and measure 18mm (.704" - .708") x 1.0mm range.
please feel free to update and or correct....

Took a while to dig it out. Top of the barrel is marked "Cimarron PT. F. A. MFG Co ~New Model P~. Bottom of the barrel is marked "CFA Fredricksburg Texas ASM Italy"*. So is it Uberti? Pietta? Or is it Armi San Marco?
*No matter how much I keep wishing, every time I read the side of the barrel it says "Single Action Army .32-20".
Thanks,
Jim

ASM Italy . . .
Armi San Marco

According to VTI parts,
Description
Pietta Barrel 7 1/2" .45LC w/Sight (1873 SA, AWA, ASM, Colt 1st & 2nd)
And some feller selling an ASM barrel on GB said
"This is an excellent 7 1/2 inch Armi San Marco barrel in 38-40 (38 WCF). The ASM barrels are threaded 20 TPI and will thread on a 1st-2nd gen. Colt SAA."
Hope this helps...

Good to know, Willy, can't beat actual trying. I just looked in Kuhnhausen manual, which dimensions match what Prof. Marvel posted.

I think I'm just going to break down and pick up a copy of Kuhnhausen's book--maybe it will cut down on my dumb questions!
More likely, I'll just have slightly-more-informed dumb questions....
