Open top disappointments

I shot my new Cimarron OTs in .38 Special in a match for the first time yesterday.  One pistol was fired in practice and the other was unfired.  Both pistols would pierce primers on occasion and the unfired pistol would fail to turn the cylinder when cocked every few rounds.  I really expected them to work out of the box, but I guess I was asking too much. 

Has anyone expierenced the problem with they cylinder not turning at all when cocked and know of a solution.  There were no high pimers and the cylinders turned ok at half cock.  The ammo was not the problem as I was shooting the OTs in the open category (second time through on the stage). The same ammo was in use during the shoot in a set of Rugers and a 66 carbine. 

I shot the OTs on three stages and after mutiple pierced primers where velocity was low and unburned powder came out the barrel and the failures to rotate I put them in the truck and finished the open category with my main match pistols.

I read this twice, 

are you saying when cocking the cyl will not Revolve ? or is it sticking on one or more cyl.

Yes, when I cock the hammer sometimes the cylinder does not turn or move at all.  It is not specific to any one chamber.  You can lower the hammer and recock and now it will rotate on the second try.

That is a weak or misaligned hand spring... the Gun is new ? send it to Cimarron

OK Roy,  Like you, many of us have had this tale of woe..

Open Tops don't seem to work well right out of the box. 

I agree with major231... that revolver that dont revolve has a weak or broken hand spring. It may look OK but it is likely to be broken.

Piercing primers?  Yep.  VIT will sell you new firing pins.  You can try to file donw the one on the gun, but if they are the pointy needle like type, you may end up replacing the pins.  The new pins are not hardened.  They have to be filed to the right size, then hardened.

RM my Navy RM's worked ok out of the box but recently needed retiming.

A local guy did mine for me and the difference is unbelievable.

I would tell anyone buying OT's since the are quite senstive to have a C&B gunsmith or one good with OT's go over them before firing them - I wish mine fealt this smooth the first time I shot them.

I am haviung same Smith make me some conversions out of two C&B Navies and R&D kits - be interesting to shoot that pair once it is completed.
