Almost bought one for around $200 back in the mid 70's, till I found out it didn't have any rifling and was not in 45-70. Seemed like an awful lot for a single shot shotgun when I still had grandpa's double 12 Crescent for nuthin'. Wish I'd known then what I know now tho'.

Yeah, you could probably forage just as well with a .45-70, if you were a good shot! Went hunting once with a Texian who was packing a bolt-action .270.  It was sleeting and I took cover in some trees to build a fire, whilst he was still out looking for elk. I heard a shot and pretty soon he comes walking in with a sage grouse, minus the head! Bird had been perched on a limb, and he shot it with his .270! We roasted it for lunch!  ;D
Ride to the sound of the guns, but watch out for bushwhackers! Godspeed to all in harm's way in the defense of Freedom! God Bless America!

Your obedient servant,
Trailrider,
Bvt. Lt. Col. Commanding,
Southern District
Dept. of the Platte, GAF
