Good evening gents,
I’ve been spending a fair amount of time in the leather shop lately, the nice cool fall days have made it a pure pleasure to just sit outside and breath. Pattern making is not my favorite activity, not by a long shot, but I convinced myself to finally make a Cheyenne pattern and a 1911 Double Loop pattern. Here is what followed, the 1911 pattern I’m relatively happy with, the Cheyenne just seems a bit off. In my minds eye it’s a bit to “fat” for lack of a better word. I think I can bring the stitched edge in a bit and fix the issue. Either way, it’s always worth the aggravation of pattern making when you get a holster that you’re pleased with.
These were made with 9-10oz Wickett & Craig, Stitched with linen thread waxed with coad, and finished with olive oil.
Hope all of you are doing well, and God Bless!

I'd say both of those are mighty good patterns. If you want the Cheyenne narrower, try making it a bit so and see how you like that. I seldom use a pattern again without making a few adjustments to dial it in the way I want.

I really like that 1911 holster!

Hi
I don't know WHY I think this, but personally, the second one looks better and less "fat". The reason to like one better than the other has nothing to do with looks though. The ability to get it out of the holster quickly when you want it is key as is keeping it IN the holster when you don't want to hold it.
hope that makes sense.

Save that Cheyenne pattern though because it might be a good fit for an Old Model Vaquero or possibly a blackhawk in the future should you have a need for one. The Blackhawks definitely need a wider holster because of the front sight.

Exceptional job on both.

Here’s my second take on the pattern. Tightened up some areas. Just need to find some period correct stamps.

That looks good. Here's a photo of a Meanea holster that can give you some ideas on stamping. There are just a couple needed to make it look historically correct.

What a fabulous Meanea rig. What is that camo stamp around the edge?
-
That stamp doesn't look like a camo stamp because it appears that the 'heel' of it is raised and the deepest impression is around the edges. It's a cool stamp. I might have to make one like that some day. I've never seen one before but it makes a great overlapping border when turned at an angle like on that holster.
Except for the two seeders, it looks like he only used two stamps and a bevel to do all the stamping.

Would you ever consider selling custom stamps? Lord knows I’d buy a bunch from ya!

I only make a stamp now and then when I need something different. I don't have the machinery to make a decent stamp. I use old bolts and whatnot. Then it's a matter of having a good set of Swiss files and some patience (and not being afraid to toss one when you screw it up and start over).

Really nice effect. I must experiment.
BTW, nice work, Brushy.

Old thread I know, but I had to comment on the 1911 Double Loop pattern.
I like it, and was wondering if you had the pattern, you might share?
