Marlin Carbine in 44-40 .... ?
« on: July 02, 2019, 05:27:15 PM »
I know there are originals, but did the modern Marlin company ever offer a carbine in 44-40?

My wife wants on to match her Pietta 44-40 revolvers. She's tried my 44-40 Uberti and '92 Rossi carbines and turned up her nose.

There were a couple of special runs made in 44WCF.   The Century Limited was one. Some 2500 were made I think. Mary has a Cowboy Limited in 44WCF that was a special run of some 325 for Davidson.   It has been reworked by Widermaker Hill.  Super smooth.

I made a carbine from a pre-safey 1894 by installing a 44WCF barrel I got from Numrich.   Maybe luck but me and cowboy gunsmith just unscrewed the 44 Magnum barrel and screwed in the 44WCF barrel.

There is a nice carbine and Century Limited on GB.  Both rather pricey.

Century limiteds go for $1500 used without box or papers, and up to $2200 mint in box.  If I win the lottery, that will be my first purchase!  I have had two of them in the last 25 years.  One when they first came out, and I paid $600 for it, and one about 10 years ago that I gave $800 for.  The first I traded of for  Uberti 1860 Henry, and the second I traded for an original 56-56 Spencer carbine with a BACO center fire breech block.
