If you look at photos of the Duke in his vest, it doesn't fit him. There is no way he could make the front end meet.  It looks about 2 sizes too small on him.  Most actors vests appear too small.  Just check one of Duke's later westerns.

Morning all, 78 here right now heading to 91 today. Predictions are for upper 90s and 100s next week, yikes. It is Summer in Arkansas though, what else to expect. Just making a couple cups this morning, then headed to Conway to get a recall done on the Missus' Santa Fe. She was gonna go, but is tired this AM, so resting. My g'niece's softball team took 2nd Place overall in their League and 3rd Place in the last tournament last night. She got 2 awards, and they don't do Participation trophies here, so it meant something. Gonna stop at a small pawn shop after getting the car done and see what they have. Then home and park in the AC!

Thanks for your thoughtful sharing:
Hope you have that 1865 rifle.
It has an interesting inspector's mark on left rear of receiver.  Smiles.

This is all really cool! Thanks for the detailed report and photos. Most of us won't get to handle one, let alone see the inside. You're giving us the chance to join in.

Afraid it left a few weeks ago, to a good home, with a serious BP shooter.

The sideplate has some fairly rough machining inside, but fits well and is numbered to the frame.

The grips are numbered and also matched to the serial number on the butt-- SN 43.  It's kind of cool that a gun that apparently got quite a bit of use didn't end up with a missing or replaced grip.

The chambers have rings around them on the back end, but not the front--at first I thought each one had been sleeved, but I think it's probably just a mark left when they were reamed.  Also, the cylinder doesn't match--SN 55--so it's 12 numbers off.  How did that even happen?  Does that mean that two of these were actually taken apart in the same place at the same time and the parts got mixed up?

Anyway, thanks to all for your interest and feedback on this odd one.
