Rolling Block Rear Sight
« on: October 04, 2022, 11:24:30 PM »
I just got my Remington No 1 Sporting Rifle barreled action back form John Taylor in Idaho.  He relined and re-chambered the barrel and the work is so clean I can't even see it with my old eyes.  He also fixed the fit of the hammer and the block, which now work properly, and gave it a much lighter trigger (started at 9#).

When I first shot it I noticed that even though I could find the front sight, the original rear sight blade has such a tiny notch in it my near 74 year old eyes can't see through it.  Any guidance about how to "carefully" open up the rear notch would be greatly appreciated.  Be advised, I have little skill and no training in file work of any kind.  Still hope springs eternal.  (smile)

Place plastic electrical tape over everything you don’t want to scratch. Then a slotting file or a jewelry file to open the notch. A full set of jewelry files are only about $25 and last for years.

Thanks Kent.  Appreciate the suggestion for electrical tape.

This works great when the notch gets hard to see.  I've gone to peep sights on most of my rifles because the Notchs have gotten too dang fuzzy.
