Another Fellow's Rodeos up for sale
« on: November 22, 2020, 05:09:06 PM »
Another Fellow over on The Other Board has his pair of Rodeos up for sale for ...

$2500

Now, I am not trying to rain on his parade or anything, just trying to educate myself on "normal wear and price points"

does this seem like "ok wear for price" to other people?
click to get to his pic, then click again to enlarge.

I am withholding my comments whilst I request other folks thoughts

That's $1250 each. Not bad if they're US sourced parts guns. But then that's a lot of holster wear and I've never liked jeweled hammers (or other parts). I'd have to pass and wish him good luck.

Greetings Dave -

Yup I thought the holster wear a tad "more than normal" but worse is the nicks on the trigger guard
and the boogured up screw heads, the scrapes on the cylinder pin latch....
and the drag line on the cylinder is pretty awful!

Most of the Rodeos were done by Jim Finch, Longhunter Shooting Supply. Generally the jeweled hammer is kind of his mark. They also will be super smooth. I have a pair of his rodeos that look like the picture bought from another cowboy. The bluing wear is not that abnormal for a shooter. And the price is right in the neighborhood of what they are worth/bringing.

Agreed, the price is i line with what some Rodeo examples are bringing.  They are Long Hunter Shooting Supply tuned guns (a plus).  However:

I choke at the monies ask'd and spent for USFA examples.  When USFA went Tango Uniform, the USFAistas and collectors went Bat Crap Crazy.  What were originally some overpriced at $600 bucks, are now being offered for twice that and more.  Dumb (My Opine)

The gun pictured for this thread has some really nice stocks.  Reasonable holster wear.  Nasty turn line on the cylinder (no excuse for that) and is of a butt ugly mat finish.

Bottom line.  Over Priced by TWO.  One could/would do better to source a nice shiny new Pietta GW II.  Even get a warranty in the process.

This guys Rodeos both have bad bolt drag scrapes on the cylinders, both cylinders have too much peening in the bolt leede  ( how the heck did he do that? USFAs are timed as close to perfect as possible?)
Then the boogered screws? And how do you scrape the blue off the frame at the cylinder pin latch?

There is another pair on that other site right now for some same price, but practically NEW!

I keep looking, wishfull thinking and all, but then I go look at Pieta prices and end up in complete agreement with you Coffin.

But at least it gives us something to talk about.

:)  Ah, My Good Perfesser   ::)

Please allow me the opportunity too elucidate.  USFA followed Uberti, who sort of followed Colt, who, because of lack of adequate metallurgy, used really heavy springs.  Properly timed, the Bolt should drop into the lead.  Not into the notch.  The bolt should slide in the lead and drop into the notch.  With a much heavier than necessary Trigger/Bolt spring, and the Bolt dropping late (onto the edge of the notch), you get peened slot sides.  Messing with the bolt timing will also result in the bolt dragging on the cylinder.  As will failure to full cock from half cock.

To me, the guns exhibit having been "adjusted" post set-up by Long Hunter shooting Supply.  By some ham fisted near do well with little or no knowledge of how to time a Single Action.  Now that they are buggered up, time to dump them off on someone else.

For the asking price for the USFAs, one could source 4 . . . . yes Agnes, that's FOUR Pietta GW IIs.  And have much more serviceable guns.  For that and another reason, I refused to shell out for High End SA's.  Spending that much and still needing someone (like me) to make them User Friend seemed Oxymoron.  I never refused to separate folks from "their" money to perform said service however.  You see, I am a capitalist.  P.T. Barnum had a saying . . . . . . . . . . . Burma Shave

$600 and no bids! 2 hours to go!

OMG, the humanity!

( and I am looking at about $2K in "not covered" dental work ... abcess, extraction, implant.....  so ... no joy toy for me)

its over here if anyone wants it

I would rather buy a brand new pair of Piettas than those.

Prof, just so you know, the BILL TILGHMAN model has a transfer bar.  I think that particular gun looks great from a distance but up close the laser engraving is just so-so.  Still, not bad for $600.

I have 6 implants and 2 more on the way.  I feel your pain (literally - spent $2K today on extractions.)  At least $30K over past 15 years.  Nothing cosmetic, just trying to keep teeth.  But I will NOT let it get it the way of my gun purchasesinvestments!  Single and no kids does have some perks.  :)

 :)  Oh Heck Perfesser   ;)

You wanna bid that SA . . . . GO FOR IT!!  I can personally handle that pesky extraction for ya.  Have it out before you even blink.  POW!!  Gone.  Same same seller has a nice AMT Hardballer up for sale too.  I are having LUST!!

ABILENE!!  Quit screwing around!!  Years ago I had ALL them pesky OEM teeth snatched out and opted for dentures.  Cured my being sick alla time.  Never had a moments regret.  Just don't get sucked in by those cheap A$$'d "do it same day" charlatans.  Prior, I had periodontitis my whole life.

Hide and watch

PLUS ONE too Pettifogger!!  Absolutely.

Stay Well Amigos
