Morning all.

Sunny in Missoula, heading for 65.

I have a wedding to be at before too long. Coworker is getting married on the hydraulic lift gate of a flatbed F650. Not my first choice of wedding venues, but to each their own.

Good to see you back Roo.

.....from reading the different books, McChristian, Langolier and Rutledge being the most informative. 1880 or so would be pretty accurate.  Anything painted, haversacks and knapsacks come to mind. Those deteriorated pretty quickly due to storage issues. Leather goods through use, modification and poor storage were probably next. Forage caps and shirts because of hard use would logically be next. All more than likely used up by the time the 72-74 issues started to catch up with the western units. With trousers, frock coats, which I understand were modified and shortened, then 4 button sacks being the items that stayed in the supply system the longest. These last items still seeing field use into the very early 1880's.

Got the shotgun in last week. Inspected it over and everything looks good.

I loaded up some Magtech Brass shells last night. Ended up with about 1oz of shot over 77 grains of Graf & Sons FFG powder made by Goex.

I could not find that exact load but it seems to be within reason for the 87 if I read everything right.

I've seen that photo but never closely examined it. I thought there were regular leather loops- thanks.

Originally I looked at a differently colored photo of this image and could not make out the details. I thought it was a canvas belt with canvas loops but someone finally told me otherwise. Once I found a more clear photo of the image I could see that it was the brass holders.

OOPS.
I should have double checked before I posted. The photo I was thinking of was at Ft. Grant and was in 1876.
Sorry

Ha.  Yeah i barely have time for all aspects of my hobby as well, so i bite the bullet and buy them.   Also, i am a chemist and we get blood tests done at least once a year to check for nasties.    No way i want to pop for heavy metals unless it is Iron Maiden, who were awesome in 83 and 86 when i saw them.   Did more damage to my ears than all this shooting i bet.
