Saddle ring for 1866
« on: August 24, 2006, 02:07:03 PM »
A local gunsmith has an original Winchester saddle ring in a parts box.  I'd like to have him fit it to my Uberti 1866.  Can anyone help with advice on positioning it correctly?

Howdy Sir Charles,
www.rarewinchesters.com has some good close-up pics of originals.  Here's one:

I believe that the Uberti repros require two holes to be drilled in the receiver, one of which must be countersunk.  I've no idea if the original is the same way, but the pictures should give you the correct positioning.

Good luck and have fun.

Great picture!.  Thats an older type of 1866, isn't it?  The picture is almost as good as a blueprint.
