I finally got around to workin' up the ultimate long range big bird killer round. It's based on the 3.5" Federal 10 ga hull. I put 41 grains of IMR 4756 under a SP 10 wad with 2.5 oz of #3 nickel plated buffered shot. Topped it off with a 10ga overshot card and a nice tight roll crimp.
Yes, it is indeed the ultimate long range big bird killer. I get killing patterns out to 75 yards with enough retained energy and pattern density to take down the toughest feathered critters known to the midwest.
Yes, it recoils rite smartly. The big 10ga SxS weighs in at 12.5 pounds and has a deep recoil pad. Even with all that, I kin now clap with my shoulder blades. A talent I always lacked. Repeated applications of that kind of recoil might just induce flinching. . . But, what the heck, why have a big cannon like that hangin' on the wall if ya don't have ammo that kin exploit it's implied energy.
Coyotes will tip rite over.
