.56-52 Centerfire, circa 1893
« on: February 16, 2012, 10:12:10 AM »
This link to a Spanish ammo collectors site was posted elsewhere in cascity.  The photos wouldn't cut-paste, but have fun.  I did copy the text, and apparently the Spencer cartridge was updated to CF back in the 19th Century.

Thanks, very cool.  I liked the section on mortar rounds, though my Spanish is a bit weak to read technical stuff!

Hello SSS,

I took the link http://www.municion.org/  and did a copy and paste of the link into my Google Search window,  and the options that came up after the search was completed included a translation of the site.  Give it a try.  This was the translation link I found:

In the following translation the paren's are mine, added for clarification.

"Evolution of the.56-52 fire Spencer cartridge.

It is manufactured in versions of sheet brass rolled, with internal piston (primer) and solid case (drawn) with conventional piston (primer).

Under these lines, four variants of this cartridge, with different lengths, crimp the bullet and bullet types. All arrived from Brazil at different times. (Possibly made in Brazil?)

2Flints;  Go to the homepage and go down the index to PISTON INTERNO and then down the cartridge listings to 56-52 Spencer CF.  When I opened your translation it was to the GRAS cartridge.

For rimfire listings go to FUEGO ANULAR.  Lots of references to .44 Henry and many to the Spencer cartridges.

The Belgian Spencer made for Brazill was chamberd for the 56-50&56-52 center fire cartridge, the US goverment had experminted with a center fire loading in the late 1860s and centerfire Spencer shot guns were advitised in the 1890s(these were converted Spencer repeating rifles and carbines not the Spencer pump shotgun)
