Title: New GAF Commander
Post by: US Scout on March 09, 2006, 04:23:52 PM
Attention to Orders.

Effective this date, I hearby officially assume command of the Grand Army of the Frontier.

Brevet Brigadier General Missouri Scotsman is declared Missing in Action (MIA).  Despite repeated attempts to contact him, I have heard nothing from him in nearly a year.  As the only remaining active founding member, I see no alternative but to take over officially, rather than to continue to act as temporary commander as I have this past year.

The GAF is moving forward.  I am pleased to see a lot of old faces appear and have no doubt that others will report in as they learn of our location.  I have charged our Department Commanders to conduct GAF activities to involve our current membership as well as recruit new members.  If you are interested in helping the GAF, contact your Department Commander.

The same as you - lots of work and no pay!  Just the priviledge of getting a title, and the honor of serving the GAF the best way we can.

Sir, my congratulations! (Or condolensces, as applicable... ;) )  Having served in a similar capacity as commander of a veteran's post, due to the demise of the previous commander, and no one else being able to step into the breach, I did. Whereupon, the breach was slammed shut on me for about two years!  :o  Finally relieved this past January by my Senior Vice-commander, who was previously unavailable for a year...serving in "Frozen Chosen".  He retired as an Air Force E-9.  When you want something done, get a Chief to do it right!  He will!

Anyhow, my heartiest congratulations.  I stand ready to do what I can to keep the Ordnance accoutrements supplied!

Sir, I will await your return and plan for a lunch.

I am also hoping by then with new orders I can be able to tell you that I can do much more in GAF too.

School has been a bit more time consuming than I thought with learning Arabic and writing my Thesis paper.  However, I am sure I will never have a "job" again that gives me off time to do all my reading and writing!!

Be safe in your travels

General Scout,
congratulations on your assumption of command. The GAF is in good hands. If I may be of service, I am at your convenience.

P.S. to General Scout: I have been retained to appear next Saturday in Kimball, Nebraska at a fundraiser for the Kimball County Historical Society "Buffalo Bill and the Fifth U.S. Cavalry". The Missouri Scotsman is to be in attendance since his wife Jennifer is in charge of this event. Is he to be taken into custody and transported somewhere? My Scouts Rest Ranch at North Platte could serve as a temporary holding facility.  I stand ready to accomplish this task if so requested. I await your reply.

BTW, I issued a extra ration of hardtack to everyone.  Steel Horse Baily made me a nice hardtack cutter.  Gopher Grease and I think we should do one meal at the GAF Muster according to the regs.   One is about all that bunch  could handle. ;D

I hope Terry Lane will correct me if I pass on this information and it's wrong, but I do believe that the planned "Buffalo Bill" meeting with Missouri Scotsman's wife, Jennifer, was snowed out.

According to Brisket, Terry was snowed out but the shindig went on otherwise and Gen. (are Bvt.'s in the GAF for life like they were in days of yor?) Scotsman was master of ceremonies.

A good question and one I've been pondering on the last few months since I got our first resignation from a Department Commander.

To be honest though, I haven't worried much about it as I have more pressing priorities in the GAF at present.

I decided to table it until I get all the Department Commanders in place.  They will form my advisory committee - which I think will be called a War Council as was done in the 19th century - and we can decide how we will deal with such weighty issues.

My intent is to have the Department Commanders provide me with the pulse of their departments with regard to changes, direction, general policies, etc within the GAF.
