Head space 1876 uberti in 45/60 win
« on: January 09, 2016, 05:22:22 PM »
G'day from Downunder Gents. This is my first time on this website. I'm a greenhorn, so be gentle with me.
From reading the difficulties associated getting 45/60 brass and/or converting 45/70 revolves around headspace. Would it be easier to have a gunsmith to increase head space so 45/70 rims would readily fit the 45/60?
I had a Uberti 45/60 about 4 years ago, but had to sell it due to financial problems. Now I'm saving up for another one. That's what I think of them.
Ya'll have a great day.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

None of the above.  First, wait until you actually have a Rifle in hand.  Some folks have more difficulties getting brass than others.  Some, have trouble getting Toilette Paper.  Since no 2 Uberti's are alike, you may not have a problem.
I'm not a fan of "Making up Brass" unless said brass is made from unobtainium or your creating a wildcat.  45-60 is available.  It may come
and go from your stockists, but it can be had.  While your saving up your pennies for a Knew-2-U 45-60, check frequently for brass.  When you see it, pick up a box or two.  May even find a supplier or two from here, willing to ship to the other side of the world.  Just be careful when you open the box, the cases may spill out onto the ceiling.  ;D

I bought a brand new 45-60 Uberti Centennial Rifle last year, and cut down 45-70 brass fits it perfectly...no head space issues at all.

Getting 45-60 brass in NZ is diffiicult at best, i use cut down 45-70 brass no issues in my Uberti 76.
I trimmed 100 cases so should keep me going for awhile.
put some money away for case, mould and dies. ;D
