I was in my LGS yesterday, and they had a MK IV( I think), in .450/.455 it was fairly well worn, the grips did not fit exactly and one of the trigger guard screws was missing. Asking $749. Is this the going price? Thanks

If it has not been cut, that is not a bad price.

Just makes me glad I picked up my Webleys when you could still get them cheap ($4-500). I managed to find a Mk IV and Mk VI in .455 and a Mk V that had been shaved.

I got mine in good old days, when you could get a Webley for $14.00 from an add in the back of a gun magazine.

Galen, Price check, I paid 100 times what you paid in the good old days for a 1904 Webley Wilkinson last year. Looks like a MkVI but sold by Wilkinson Sword with their name and address on the bbl and nicer walnut grips. Considerably rarer than the martial MkVI.

Is this a round butt (MK IV) or a square butt (MK VI) ?

Drydock, not sure if you’re asking the op or me but mine is a square butt MkVI. Ed

Most round butt Mk IVs , .455, have a 4" barrel, although I have seen 6" ones. I've seen one .455 Mk VI with a 4" but not sure if it was the original barrel or not, every other Mk VI ,square butt, that I'm aware of has a 6" barrel.
Ed, nice holster.

There are 4 inch MkVI’s. Theres one on GB now. Not as nice as the one in the photo. [not mine] Also 4 inch Fosbury’s too. Rare critters. No legit two inch .455 factory made Webleys though. I have seen several but they are bubba’s creations. I think that they do look better with the shorter bbl.

Ed, thanks for posting the pic with the back of the holster. I never knew that they held the cleaning rod back there. You learn something new everyday.

"Tascosa Joe told me it was a "Banana Grip" round butt"
Banana butt does seem to describe it better, I'll have to remember that one.
Ed, went and looked on GB, now my count has gone up. Interesting piece, but outside my budget currently.
Galen...$14??!! Man I wish I had been old enough for those at the time. Course I still remember reading some of my Dad's old Argosy mags and drooling over the ads back in the day, just couldn't convince my Mom of the need to stash away some of those old gems we don't see advertised like that anymore. Dad was more than willing, but Mom had her ways of convincing us that food came first. What was she thinking?!

OK then, real .455 MK IV then. Not out of line for shaved. (Tight latch with a nice barrel I'd pay it.) A steal if unaltered. Grips and screws are easy to find.

Before you open your wallet, look for the spare parts first - they're harder to find than you might think.
Also - for the most part, commonality with grip panels was tight - they're basically a drop-in fit - that said, if they don't fit the frame well, look to damage that may have caused the frame to warp.
I'm not saying that it can't be fixed - but I wouldn't waste the time - there are still a lot of MkVIs out there - un-cut - for the asking price - they're just not at your local gun shop.
