Learning to love my Schofield
« on: June 14, 2007, 07:33:24 PM »
I have been in a love/hate relationship with my Scofield,,,being so differently balanced than a Colt.'

Getting there.

The fact I can hit a pop bottle lid each shot at 15 yards helps.

This is overkill for SASS,,way over,,but accuracy is a plus.

Though they load and unload quickly, I've noticed that they don't seem to cycle as fast, and my reason is that the distance of the hammer spur to the pivot doesn't match my thumb joint dimensions as well as a Colt does, so the hammer seems to go in a strange direction when you cock it.  It can be gotten used to.

Also, don't try to slip-hammer a Schofield, it won't, if the trigger is held back, it simply will not cock.

Flint, iv noticed this also.

It's different than a Colt for sure, but I'm getting used to it.

My favorite is a model 1860Army, cap and ball, or a conversion/OT, with Army grips. They just roll in my big ol' paw better, and feel,,,well,,,,like an extension of my hand.

  Howdy Pards!

  I am undecided so far...
I had a nice slicked ivory handled, nickel plated Schofield, and a standard blued one with 7 inch barrels.  I found them big, bulky, and ackward in my littlish hands (I favor Colt Navy's,  M1860 Army with Navy grips, or  M1871/72 Open Tops, or the M1873.

I sold off the two, and picked up a 5 inch barrelled version that I have not fired yet.  I shall see how the 5 incher handles....
