Uberti S&W Russian - Holster Question
« on: January 28, 2007, 08:44:23 AM »
Howdy to the campfire. I purchased above pistol with 6,5" barrel which is currently being rechambered to shoot .44 Colt. Now I need a period correct "civilian" holster, around 1880. What western holster style would be appropriate and would you have suggestions were to get one online?
Thank you for your help.

Howdy Pards and Pardettes.

Bootsie, Pard you can use any of the styles with them.  I think that the California pattern Slim Jim is the most elegant style, but any of them are fine.  I have made Mexican loop holsters for mine and they are fine if you like that style.  I seem to be making more and more Half Breed style so as I said any style you like is appropriate for the time period, so pick the one you like.

Edited Part;  Go to the leather page and check out some of the stuff over there, there you will find all kinds of ideas.

That is all I think I know.

David Carrico... he is a friend of mine and made the rigs for the new Brad Pitt "Jessy James " films.
He makes great S&W Slim Jims & Mex Loops.

Cool web site posted by Joss House on the leather & patterns.
Now Bootsie, I'd like to hear some details on rechambering to 44 Colt? Was the S&W Russian already chambered for 44 Russian?

Thanks for the constructive hinds.
Stepnmud: no, the Russian was chambered for .44 Russian like the rest, but I didn't want to add another .44 cartridge to my reloading battery as I shoot now most of my "active duty guns" with .44 Colt. I expect to have the pistol back and rechambered from my gunsmith the next weekend. Will post the results of my shooting with the (all American) .44 Colt in the Russian.

Great looking rig but even greater looking grips.
Where did you find them? Are they PU Ivory? Am in the process of replacing the factory ones on mine. Any suggestions?

Mornin' Gents;

The Holster Rig, including the Ammo Pouch, Shotshell Holder, & Knife Sheath was made by
my shootin' pard Hawkfeather. He's done all of mine & Boss Lady's leather for CAS. He's
got a real good rep in these parts! ;D ;D ;D

The Grips are Ivory/Polymer and come from Buffalo Brothers Cowboy Store. I bought them
at EOT 2006 & they were almost a perfect fit, but required minor adjustment. Had them put on by Cactus Jack, our local
cowboy gumsmith. You can contact them at: buffalobrothers.net. Just tell them that they are for
a Uberti No. 3 Russian & they'll send you what you need. 8) 8) 8)

OK, I'll try it again: here is my new holster, inspired by Irish Dave, for my .44 Colt caliber Uberti Russian, also with new grips. Cheers.
