Title: Question regarding gun stock covers

I've been thinking of having leather gun stock covers (butt covers) made up for some of the rilfes I intend to use for CAS.  There are all kinds of styles - some of which have loops on them where extra ammo can be carried.  That would be good when hunting, but somebody said that you CANNOT have extra ammo or even ammo loops on the gun stock when shooting CAS,  Can somebody shed some light on that for me?

Sure.  Happy to oblige.  Leather Butt covers are perfectly legal and quite popular.  You may NOT have ammunition NOR ammunition loops on a Rifle or Shotgun Butt Cover.  NOT SASS LEGAL.  It is somewhat camouflaged in the SASS handbook, but is there.

Thanks Coffinmaker.  I appreciate that.  I was pretty sure you would not be allowed to carry extra ammo but wasn't sure if you could have the loops.  I was thinking along the lines of using them when hunting - but having them empty when shooting CAS.  But that solves that problem - no loops.  Period.  Thanks.

Frank, a nearly identical question was just asked on the SASS Wire, and Palewolf Brunelle of the rules committee (he is the one who informs us of rules and interpretations) stated that the butt cover loops are okay and can even have ammo in them for "decoration", as long as you don't try to use that ammo during a stage.

Ya know, the folks at SASS are almost as consistent as Sour Milk.  Was a time the rules were pretty much cut and dried.  Now, they (the rules) are caring shades of Grey.  I guess I should spend more quality time with the SASS Wire.  Na.  Too many nasty folks over on that side of the fence.
