That could look good. The way to really tell is to take a scrap and do a couple inches of it just the way your belt would look at the edge. Then you can see how it looks.

For a border not as wide but using the same stamps you could offset the top and bottom stamps (move the top to the left and down. Move the bottom right and up). this would create a more chained together look. I played around some with border design after messing up on my shoulder holster. I think a border that is linked together looks better but listen to the guys that have experience, I am a rookie.  ;D

Howdy Ace
I've used a boarder like that many time over the years. I'd like to know who's 407 veiner you are using.
It looks to me that the stamp is not made right. The center large hump should line up top and bottom,
then that pattern would look good. If they won't then the suggestion of offsetting the stamp and moving
them closer would look good.

I agree with Marshal Will Wingam, it is easier to see what things will look like if you make a sample on scrap first , this way you can add or change things until you get the look you're after, I try to do this with all my border tooling or stamping , it takes the guess work out of it , and you won't be unhappy after you finish your gun belt , holster or any leather piece your working on, also the same thing is true for dyeing or staining , and the finishing coat, you're thinking about useing , it's always best to make samples of what you want to do. ( IMHO )

Agreed. Really hard to tell with one impression. As has been suggested, put a few inches of it together on a piece of scrap and you'll (we'll) have a better idea what it would look like as a border.

Gotta try that, Crossdraw that could look neat. That's an interesting one, Ace. Stamp it a few times and post a picture.

WC,
I was useing a new, it says top line
Crafttool USA
and below V407
Mow a have a old one that i bought on line, not thinking I had the new one
And here is what it says
Top line clear over to the far part of the end of the handle just 407
below Craftool Co, it looks older and the shape looks a little diff.
I will do a 3 inch line, and send a photo, if this camera works this morning.

I wanted to just put stars top and bootom, but I have spent so much so quick, I am going to have to wait on buying anymore stamps, I tried to make one, didn't turn out, I tried 3-4 times with no luck.
I will get bach to you guys soon, I don't want this belt to look to feminest (no pun inteaded to the gals)

First off, WC, I think the problem was operator error :o I have to tell my self to slow down, this lying in bed  ::) And I think I still wany to work on a star border before I do anything.
What do you guys think?I designed this holster to copy something along the lines of what Wild Bill, or J.J. !
I also like Roses :o but not as a border! But as a ad in, someone is going to have to make a vidieo of how to use the rope tool, I can not figure it out!
Dump it on me, I need to know what type of border this Double Croosdraw Needs.
Thanks a Bunch

Howdy Ace
Here is how I use the rope stamp.
Lay a light guide line. lay the stamp angle t match the line. Overlap the edge of the stamp.
You can bevel the outside lines to make the stamp stand out if you want.
Hope this helps.

Thank you WC, I think I need to clean mine, I dont it the inside marks on both ends, our it may be shot :( :(

Nobody has told me, what would be the best for a close to period correct border, I know you all were being nice on the Kuddo's on the holsters, i know there crappy, I hope to improve, but since i want to wear this rig at the first shoot, maybe I can make belt help the looks of the holsters.

You guys are super, and I know I am years away from hand carving, but with people like you folks, I will improve!!
I am very Great full to you all!!

Hey Cowboywc,
How do you use the rope tool around curves?  I tried this once and it didn't turn out well for me.  Can you post a picture of the rope tool going around a curve?

You're only as far away as you want to be. Just start in. At that moment, you become a hand carver. Then it's just a matter of doing more for practice. You will develop your own style by first copying others then branching off with ideas you think would make the designs better.

As to what border design to use, just find one you like on something someone has posted here. If you have the tools to make it, great. If not, use the closest stamps you do have and all of the sudden, it's your own border design. Just remember to post a picture of it on the border thread.  ;D If you have a copy of Packing Iron or can get to one in the library, you will see many wonderful borders on those holsters for ideas. You can't get much more authentic looking that copying an original.

Here's a picture of a couple Meanea holsters to get you started.

Ace, I have been going to antique shops here lately, and any old saddles or bits of leather work with stamping done, I like to try to take a pic or at least make a good mental note (unreliable). Most places wont mind a pic or so. DM

Once again you folks have opened the door  ;D  I think tomorrow, i will lay out several diff. border styles, and see what I like :)
I was at a Flea market this after noon, and seen a super fringed coat, just my size good color, but wearing marks no holes, I made a offer, I am to call them tomorrow, i don't think they will take What I want to pay, but if they ;D
And marshall Will I have been playing with making my own stamps, should have some to so you tomorrow, I have allways like making things, pride and joy goes along with that.
