See this coming June 28th it's been a year since last post on anything to do with Rugers fine revolvers. I know one guy here on the forum doesn't like them according to his many posts about them (no offense intended), but IMO other than they aren't of the same design and such of 1800 era designed revolver's, they are light years ahead in design and construction. FWIW I DO like my Colt and Remington percussion and conversions and single Colt 1871 Model, but the Rugers I have are light years ahead of them if not considering the nostalgia. Just saying.

Well count me with that other guy  :)  I don't care for them either.  Guess I'm too nostalgic  ;D

I did own on OMV once.

 :) Well Heck Choker  :D

;D Yep.  Sure enough.  It's ME again.  Rugers.  Icky Foo Yuck.  Light Years ahead??  No way.  Well Made??  Yes.  Although the newer build Rugers are showing up with problems.  And, I still DON'T LIKE 'em.  Plus, the hot ticket for most of the competitive guys is to convert 'em from Transfir Bar to more Colt like.

Crow Choker

Weellllll--Golllly! (pronounced Gomer Pyle style)  ;D . I'm not a big fan of the transfer bar, but the Rugers are tuff SOB's and nice lookin hog-legs. My Ol 1970 era three screw Super Single Six 22lr bought new for $72 in April of '70 is still my favorite Ruger single action revolver, click, click, click-alot of shootin memories with that ol girl.

Of my two Vaquero's I prefer the old model style(45 Colt) vs the new model frame (.357/38 Sp). Still well made heavy duty workhorses, my Super Blkhawk 44 is a brute as is my ROA. The centerfire top strap Rugers IMO and alot of others opinion will hold up way over any opentop style Colt frame with heavy loads no matter what one guy who wants to be a 21st century Elmer Keith is doing and advocating stuffing heavy 45 ACP or 45 Colt loads into conversion cylinders installed onto opentop style frames.

As I stated before, I love my Colt style open top frame revolvers be they percussion or metallic cylinder conversions, like the Remington percussions too. Haven't heard much about any current Ruger's offerings having issue's as Coffinmaker posted, seems every firearm manufacturer goes through periods of problems off and on. Glad Ruger's are available to the shooting public. ;D

I'm not quite sure who you're talking about but I've never seen or claimed an open-top platform is equal to a Ruger, not to mention advocating others shoot what I shoot. Not sure who's trying to be an Elmer Keith  but if testing what a particular platform can handle so be it!!  I haven't seen or made any statement to that.
What you like and shoot is your business and likewise I have my preference.  If you had announced what open-top platforms could handle maybe tests wouldn't be needed!! Of course the platform should be setup as designed and then throat sizes checked to match bullet diameters. An 11 deg. f.c. is a necessary step as well. What im bringing to the "table" is just good information .  .  .  take it or leave it. Nobody has ever mentioned they could handle +p ammo  but now it's a steady diet  .  .  .
Imagine helping someone achieve their goals as being a "negative" ?

Wait just a second or three.  I don't think any of us have EVER claimed Open Top Colt pattern guns, either original or replicant demonstrated the same strength as "Strap Guns" (Quote Sam'l Colt) be they Colt, Remington, What have you.  So you gotta skip that claim.  There is also no comparison between the "Original" three screws Rugers and the transfer bar guns.  Again, they are tough and well built guns.  Although, for the years I had my shingle out, Rugers have had abysmal cylinder throat dimensions, well undersize.  Ruger, for the game we play, have no historical provenance other than outward appearance.  They are not reproductions of anything.  Burma Shave.

PS:  And personally, I DON'T LIKE 'em.

Well, I have mentioned that the recent build open-top copies from Italy are in fact capable of firing ammo that many factory "top strap" revolvers can't when fitted with a Kirst cylinder.  That's what I've been testing for the last couple  + years!! Stuff i shoot in my 1860's will bend my Pietta  SAA copies. Of course the tolerances have to be "reined" in, arbors correct length, cylinder throats correct size and a proper 11° forcing cone  .  .  .  in other words,  "built as if it were a firearm".  My personal '60's are the most accurate firing 45acp +p ammo which only took 5 shots to "move" the  frame of the mentioned Pietta Frontier.  As for my Dragoons, they've been shooting 45C +p (23Kpsi) as well.  The "Bear Gun" in the video above has been sighted in with some loads a little hotter that that.  No better folks to figure out loads than the Pearce family!!
The open-top platform, if executed properly, can be just as modern as you want it to be. This DOES NOT  mean the factory "conversions" can handle these loads !!!
I'm not advocating anyone do this, as I said, im doing this with MY revolvers as a test for informational purposes.

I'll agree with ya Coffinmaker that the Rugers historically are not 1800 era or modern replicas of, but are Bill Ruger's 20th century plus offerings to look like historical single actions with his improvements for strength. Also Ruger's do look similar to a Colt single action as you mentioned but have no historical provenance although they do have a huge following as Ruger has sold many many over the years to satisfied customers. I for one like the looks of them and for what they are, but as I penned previously like the old three screw, non transfer bar versions. I DO love shooting my stable of percussion and conversion Colts (toss in a Remington and ROA).

In regards to your first and second sentence there is one of the "any of us" that has made the claim/insinuation that 1800 era open-top Colt or modern replicas there of can or are as strong as top strap revolvers. I don't believe it has been penned in this forum but has been prolifically done so on another forum dealing with muzzle loaders and percussion revolvers. The individual has gotten into alot of problems with the moderators as the individual wants to post about shooting/gunsmithing conversion revolvers shooting metallic cartridge's (either loaded with black or smokeless powder) which is against forum rules.  :)

Too funny  CC 😆

First off, I've never claimed what you say. I most certainly stated that a correctly set up open-top platform is stronger than the REMINGTON platform.  Never said anything about a Ruger !!  Later I mentioned exactly what I mentioned above! The Pietta SAA copies can't handle the loads that the Open-top platform can either!! I found that out first hand.
Shortly after that I read Brian Pearce's 45C +p article in Handloader Magazine. The article lists several revolvers that should not be used with +p ammo  .  .  .  Pietta was one such example. Still no mention of a Ruger .  .  .
So, my contention is, if set up correctly,  the open-top platform is as modern as many "modern" revolvers and then some!!!  For some reason that "triggers" some folks  😆😆

It's ok though as I continue to shoot and run my tests and I also check in with Walt on how things are going with them.  That's about it. Like I said, never mentioned Rugers.  Some folks just can't help themselves from "embellishments" I guess. If you ever do anything for the "good" of the community,  there's always gonna be detractors.
It's easy to go to the forum CC is talking about and look up my posts. Check for yourselves.  You'll get a kick out of a particular member that refuses to believe facts and knows everything to know about bp revolvers.  It's like the forum is 25 yrs behind all the others. (I've told them that too ).

  Crickets
So, what would you determine if your OT revolver could safely fire ammo that your Top Strap revolver could NOT ?!!

It is what it is  .  .  .

CM, the best use I've found for ROA's is to hold a Kirst cylinder in place !!!! 😆
They were a really good study of "torsion spring" placement and as in all things, a great place to start for improvements in other SA revolvers. It's possible we may get a "gated conversion" from Walt some day. I'd do that to all my ROA's in a heartbeat!!! Imagine,  a 3-screw "Super Blackhawk" that can double as a cap gun !?

Hey !! Here's a video  from the Pearce Brothers about BBQ guns!!
They probably wouldn't like it on the "other" forum.
