http://s1300.photobucket.com/user/Dave_Vanderpool/library/Facebook/2013%20GAF%20Grand%20Muster%20Oct%2046%202013

I changed some settings.  BOTH Photobucket links I posted seem to be working now.  I was able to view then from another computer that didn't have my log-in cookies.

It looks like a good time was had by all. The coats looked as though they were needed in the mornings. Congrats to all the folks that attended.

Yes, we had some chiily mornings in the 40's but later it got into the 60's with a breeze.  Perhaps chilly for some, but GREAT for those of us in wool.

Also quite enjoyable for at least half of the contingent from North of the Medicine Line.  (My batman, who is a Wuss of largely French/Italian extraction, thought it was chilly but, being of largely German/Scottish ancestry and possessing an adipose layer somewhat akin to that of a walrus, I found conditions quite pleasant while attired in only a light shirt and cotton khaki drill uniform .....)
 ;D

I should add that my batman/photographer has tried to send me an album of the photos he took, but I cannot open it, so will have to get them on a memory stick or disk.

All,
Thanks for sharing the pics, outstanding!
Unless I missed it earlier, I've got a question for Guns & Pitspitr: Guns, where did you get the redcoat uni & etc. from, it looks perfect especially in the pics of you shooting the MH. Same for Pitsptr, your blue coat looks absolutely spot on, purchased or handmade?
Best regards and good shooting!

Ol' Gabe:

The British tunic and trousers were ordered from "Replicaters" (note spelling), a uniform outfitter located in India.  Reviews on the internet are mixed - some folks had bad experiences, but most are positive.  Their quality is overall quite good - IF - you give them detailed measurements, descriptions and instructions.    Rattlesnake Jack had good results with them for some of his uniforms, and I followed his lead.  The more photos and/or drawings you can provide, the better.  With my order, we had one mis-fire, but Sanjay made it good at no charge.

The prices are pretty reasonable - I think all together, the tunic and trousers together ran be in the neighborhood of $350.  About 270 for the tunic and 80 for the trousers - IF I remember right.

The Official Photographic Chronicler of the British Contingent has finally gotten his images to me!  I have put up a picture album on PhotoBucket..... this is a link to the slideshow version:

For another bit of graphic content in this post, this is one of the images, being the entire aforementioned "British Contingent" -

We are kitted out for the two Anglo-Boer Wars in South Africa.  Guns Garret is a Sergeant-major of the 1st Dragoon Guards, at the time of the First Anglo-Boer War (1880-1881) and I am a Canadian Infantryman at the time of the Second Anglo-Boer War (1899-1902).

Thanks for the slideshow. Makes me wish even more that I could have been there. Those British uniforms are quite dashing.  What was Books' uniform with the other pith helmet?  I especially liked the shot of River City John sitting on the porch looking toward the camera. Made me think of Old Jules.  Hope to see you all next June at Ft. Pitspitr.

Hi Stu!  Glad to hear that you are on the mend, and look forward to seeing you in June!

Books wasn't wearing a uniform there, just his usual "bookish townie" attire, topped off with a dashing pith helmet and some sort of greatcoat to ward off the extreme cold that all those "southrons" seemed to be experiencing.  On the other hand, note that a hardy northerner of German/Scots extraction was enjoying the "pleasant coolness" - I am wearing no coat of any kind in any of my photos and spent both days in "tropical kit" .... cotton drill with only a lightweight shirt on underneath!

Edit: If you liked the photos of River City John on the porch smoking his stogie, you might enjoy my little 2-picture video (i.e. switch quickly from one image to the next) posted on the Facebook GAF page - https://www.facebook.com/groups/308112292558615/   I was inspired by Dave Vanderpool's earlier "Feel the Burn with RCJ" post   ....

I'm sorry Gabe I missed your question until now.
I had it made by a local seamstress using a pattern acquired from Connie Lindemeier (sp?) from Wyoming. The collar is slightly to tall and the belt loops are a little too wide but otherwise is museum quality. (Yes, it does have the correct padded body which makes it quite warm when worn in a heated building)
