I have 4 Colts, I use 3 in cowboy shoots, one is a back up. I also have an unfired Colt that was made in 1980. I was thinking of slicking it up and shooting it, how much will that decrease the value. If I sell it now unfired I'll make some $$$$

Some 3rd Gen SAA Colts have seen prices in the mid $1500- 2000's in Like new conditions.
If the Colt has the original box & papers it will bring more $ unfired , and un-turned is key
It will depend on the caliber & barrel length as to any premium....
However, 3 rd. Gen. Colts of that era 80's garnered some reputation due to union strikes & Craftmanship that may hinder.
Though the Covid/social unrest of 2020-21 has effected prices upward on almost any type of gun .
More so on CCW & home protection...
Some to almost silly selling prices, some of that has leveled off of late.
It might just be the time to realize your best return....

So maybe I should just shoot it then and enjoy it. It's a perfect match to my other 5 1/2".
BTW it's a .357 so I know .45's command a better price as well as .44-40. .357 is the least desirable.

Yep ! I shoot mine.... I've said before I'm not a curator
and frankly, I'm not in favor of my heirs being lowballed hoodwinked so some opportunist can score a profit off of them.
If that makes me something other than a consumer , so be it

A couple questions. Do you like it [caliber, bbl length] as much as your other Colts? Can it be sold [or traded to a collector who collects -not shoots] and possibly replaced and still put enough money in your pocket to be worth the trouble of selling and potentially buying another? Would you feel the need to replace it? Your call.

I have 3 other Colts all in .357 that I shoot. This is a perfect match to my other 5 1/2" so I decided I'm gonna slick it up and shoot it! 8)

That’s what they’re made for—not nailing up wanted posters or throwing at the guy who’s chasing you on horseback. Always felt bad for the horse. Life is full of decisions. I had a 5.5 inch Ruger vaquero that I couldn’t run as fast as my 4.5 inch so I had it shortened to 2.5 inch and bought a second 4.5. All are .45s.

Normally I say shoot it, but I bought two other type of colts that I bought to be passed down. Last I looked they jumped ten times what I gave for them. Matched set, serial numbers, presentation box, the whole nine yards.

Mine has been given to my gunsmith buddy, he's in the process of slicking it up and it'll be a shooter.

UPDATE: Colt is all slicked up and shoots great! Wolff springs and some minor smoothing out of some parts. Gunsmith did a great job, It's now my favorite Colt! 8)

Update # 2
I stated earlier I was not a curator,
well that has changed, I recently took a position of curator at a Museum of Military History.
It does not change my outlook on my collection of Firearms, I'll continue to shoot...
