Plainsmen Buffalo Rifle shoot
« on: September 19, 2011, 10:47:40 PM »
I forgot to mention that the October 14-15-16 NCOWS Buffalo Rifle shoot at Lebo, Kansas is also open to various plains
rifles. The kicker is you must be able to keep up with the Cartridge guns or a dam fast front stuffer. I plan to  use either my
replica 1858 Enfield or my 1861 Springfield. Both rifles are capable of knocking down the heavy steel buffalos and have at past
shoots.  Minnie rifles shoot slower velocities and drop quicker than say 45/70 rounds do. But that is the challange. I still like
my remington 45/70, but post CW Kansas has my attention.

Actually BPJ, this year we are going to have a separate category for you front-stuffers. You will only compete against other plainsmen!
Looking forward to seeing you.  jt

Man, this sounds like fun. It's too far to drive to this year, but maybe next year if I plan ahead. You guys keep your powder dry!

Ah, the curse of living in Alabama, so far away to the West....
The first step of becoming a good shooter is knowing which end the bullet comes out of and being on the other end.

Can't make it this year, either!  But that sounds like a great shoot to make next year!  Hey, Caleb!  We could make that one of our TAPS get-togethers next year!

If we set it up to be a TAPS event, plan on a few extra days.  Fort Leavenworth has a great collection of horse drawn wagons and uniforms.  The steamboat Arabia Museum in downtown KC is worth twice the price of admission and a good way to spend the better part of a day.  She went down in '58 and is a great time capsule of what was going up river to be traded.

Leavenworth and the Arabia Museum are well worth the time. There's also a lot of Jesse James history to see northeast of Kansas City, plus we wouldn't be too far away from Fort Scott, or the Bushwhacker Museum in Nevada, Missouri. Not to mention the Kansas Historical Society Museum in Topeka. There's no way I'd have time to do it all, but I definitely want to squeeze in one or two of these, either on my way to Lebo or after the shoot is over.
