Welcome to The American Plainsmen Society!
« on: August 10, 2011, 12:39:20 PM »
Welcome to The American Plainsmen Society! It looks like we're off and running, and I'm eager to see where we end up in the days and weeks to come. Thanks to Marshal Halloway for furnishing us with our new home, and to the moderators at the Cas City Historical Society for allowing us to get this new board rolling on their site. I'd also like to thank everyone who chimed in with their support and suggestions -- especially Jake MacReedy (who coined the name), TwoWalks Baldridge, and Sacramento Johnson.

Best of Luck to you and to this concept.

I've forwarded your original thread to get you started, and if I can help - just ask.

Caleb, it a wonderful day for the plainsman ... after much wondering he has a home.  Sitting on the front porch and looking off over the hills, one can dream of where the next adventure will lead.

St. George and Del -- thank you both for the offers of help. I may take you up on that someday.

St. George, I appreciate you forwarding the original thread over here. I was hoping to get that here, as it contains a lot of posts that led to this board.

TwoWalks -- don't get too comfortable on that front porch, there's still a lot of work to do.

Great to see there is now a group that bridges Buckskinners and CAS! I got my start with percussion revolvers then migrated to buckskinning, then back. This is a group that has been needed for a long time.

Caleb, just say the word and the work parties will be there.  Not the smartest or most talented but I have an opinion on things and will sure help where needed.

I'll have to say, boys, this is kind of exciting to watch--like a mare dropping a foal.  It will be fun to see where this goes.

Caleb, I was thinking that since we are so new as a group, it would be nice to know where everyone lives. Could that info be included on the "members list"? Get ourselves an idea how far-flung we are. Just a thought.

That sounds like a fine idea, Bill. A few of us might be closer than we realize.

If you're already a member and haven't told me where you currently hail from, drop in an email now and I'll post that alongside your alias. Just a state would be fine.

Thanks,
Caleb

I  agree with Bill.  I wish the CASCITY profile required the entry of at least the state.   I am in Texas.

Caleb, list me as Central California.  California is so dang long, it is like three states. North, central, southern.

Ol Coot, what part of Colorado do you hail from? I have family in Pueblo -- which is another section of the country with a lot of history that fits our period.

Born and raised in the mountins around South Park. But at 71years young
I now lay my hat down in Denver.

Ah Denver.  I can recollect living on 17th and Logan back in the 70's, them were some wild days.

I used to hang around South Park some when I was selling cow feed for a living back in the 70's and early 80's.   There was a group of us, probably about 15 families, that used to have small mountain man encampments in that area up thru the mid 80's.  I lived east of Pueblo about 60 miles.   There was an old character named Herschel --------- I keep wanting to say Walker, but I dont think that is right.  Too many years ago....  Anyway he leased a big ranch on the north side of 24 before you get to Fairplay.  He was a real character.

Late part of 70's, if memory serves, about 78, I worked for a year on a ranch outside of Silverton before heading on down to Gallup, NM, for a year. Not much for looking back, but there is a part of me that wishes I had settled in the Silverton to Durango area.

Silverton/Durango area is really pretty country, but I would hate to have to winter up there.  I think I would have to leave right after elk season and go back around May.
