Capt. Mack:

Thank you for the nudge!

My application has been filled out and I will endeavor to get it posted, with payment, tomorrow.

Right then, Lads!  If I can make it from Canada, then I hereby challenge all fellow GAF members to get there also!

(According to the Geobytes website, the "direct line" - i.e. "as the crow flies" - distance between Medicine Hat and Lockhart is 1549 miles!  I'll work on trying to find out highway miles ....)

Welllll........
I had figured that the football season would be over by then and that even though it's the opening weekend of deer season I would burn a bunch of comp hours and just go. Then after watching the season opener the other night the boys could be playing in in Memorial Stadium in November and I won't miss the chance to keep stats in the big stadium. I'm just going to have to see how the fall plays out.

Is there a maximum number of particitpants? I may have to be a last minuter  :-\

T-MINUS 63 DAYS UNTIL THE GRAND MUSTER

Hello to all from Texas Sarge:

Lets all try to use this top post for all Grand Muster information.

Rattlesnake Jack glad to hear from you and looking forward to seeing you in November.
Pitspitr we can have as many shooters as we want, and we want a lot!  We are trying to put together the numbers for the awards so I can have enough medals for all the winners, as well as trying to get the numbers for the meals.  Kitchen Kate is going to cook up a Texas Storm.  Don't forget meals start at breakfast on Nov the 12th thru lunch on Nov 14th, and I hear from
Kitchen Kate that on Saturday night for the Grand Ball meal there will be a smoked turkey meal with all the trimings.  After all it is November.

I have finished writing the main match stages and the round count is: Rifle-93+ Revolver-87+  the plus in the count is for the
mandatory knock downs, so bring some extra ammo for both weapons.
Capt Mack is just about finished with the EEM and Long Range so a round count will be coming soon for that as well.
Hope everyone will get there Applications in soon, it will be big help for puting together a great Grand Muster in Texas.

Texas Sarge

I am eagerly looking forward to the trip!  Events conspired against my getting a money order and mailing off my registration yesterday, but it got done today!
Gonna have to buckle down now and work at getting everything else ready .....   ;D

Grand Muster: ......................

Side Matches:

Besides the EEM we will be having these side matches too:

Long Range:....................................

Double-Action Pistol (must be shot DA)

Ha Ha! I understand this is double action at 100 yards (like with the single action "cap n' ball pistols)

Your insane, and have thrown down the gauntlet-I like it!

Will you be participating in this with your Colt's New Service .45?

Charles,
I shot my New Service .45 double action at the DOM Muster, one handed of course, like they were meant to be shot.  (The people at Colt must have been afraid someone was going to make one of their double actions go off accidentally, and designed accordingly!)  You'll like it!

I will shoot my Webley W.G. Target revolver - nicest double-action let-off of any revolver I have ever shot ....     ;D

Jack,
If your Webley's double action let-off is nicer than my old long action S & W it must be truly fabulous!  Bring it along to the Department of the Missouri Muster next year so I can see for myself!

Oh yes, I would like it very much!

I always looked at any gun range shooting as training-even if it is a "Match"-that's just a word. So, having always liked shooting with a "Train like you fight" mentality, well, a 100 yard double action revolver shot will usually take so much time on the trigger pull, most anybody would, in all actuality, just cock the thing.

Now, if shooting purely for a challenge and test of skill-then it seems like double action at 100 yards (one handed with a New Service!?!) is about as good of test as any-especially seeing how normal CAS and SASS targets are within spitting range-and with a single action? Now the GAF goes to 100 yards with all of our service pistols. Am I the only one that finds this to be incredibly profound?

I consider the GAF to be the finest shooting organization in the entire world. Now with the new rifle/pistol skirmisher course Ned Niederlander conceived and then tested at the Department of Missouri  muster and Capt Mack's 100 yard pistol (double action!) shooting-I find the GAF is evolving into something even better-It's hard to find the words to describe!

I only fear that I may have to miss the Grand Muster, just as I missed the Missouri muster. A very depressing thought.

As frustrating as it might be, there's always next year. To the best of my knowledge the only ones who have never missed a Grand Muster are Rattlesnake Jack, River City John and possibly Gripmaker. The rest of us get to as many as we can and miss as few as possible.

My registration is going out Monday.

Is everyone staying in the barracks so far?

p.s. If this is Grand Muster # 7, then I have missed one, I think:

two in Kansas
two in Iowa (I missed one? Only remember one, at least.)
two in Nebraska
one in Texas

Mine will  be going out with the next paycheck, and I'll  be staying in the barracks.    Charles has got to come, I've got to know if my Krag practice did any good!   :o

I have spent many, many hours this past year thinking about practicing.

Consequently, I now think I am so much faster, smoother and accurate than I was before I thought about practicing that there's no need to actually do the practice.

A large part of this game is mental. And there is no one more mental than I.

Bring it on!

Gosh, I'm glad to hear it. I've been reading a book on sports psychology. That should give me the needed edge. ;)
