Holster for new shooter
« on: June 01, 2012, 06:20:40 PM »
I have been away from action shooting for a few years and not sure about this new fangled NCOWS. My 13 yr old son told me the other day that he wants to shoot Cowboy Action with me! ;) Needless to say I am a little excited about it. I am about to order some leather for him and understand that double pouches are not allowed. What is everyone using? A shotgun belt with singles? I guess what I need to know is what not to order. It will be used for SASS and NCOWS.

Thanks for any help,

Bar Stool Billy and Cole Frisco or Frisco Kid, or well we are working on that too..... ;D

Billy,

What part of Texas do you reside in?

We have three posses.  Map is here:  http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/topic,43226.msg546484.html#new

Try to come out and watch a match.  Youll get a good feel about the "atmosphere" of NCOWS and how it differs from other western shooting.

That places your nearest NCOWS the Berger Sharp Shooters.  If planning on shooting both NCOWS and SASS, my suggestion is attend an NCOWS gathering ... ask your questions on gear there ... everything accepted at NCOWS is accepted at SASS, but not the other way around.

Not entirely true. NCOWS allows pre 1900 DA revolvers, where SASS does not.

Billy,

The Sharpshooters secretary lives in Frisco.  Contact him via our website www.bergersharpshooters.com He can give you a run down on our posse and maybe even carpool with you to our next shoot. If you need any gear we'll be glad to loan yo what you need.  Remember NCOWS has a Working Cowboy class that only requires a pistol and a rifle to compete.  Great way to get started.

Look forward to meeting you and your son. Feel free to also contact me with any questions.
