I have taken the new to me 103 year old Smith M1917 for an outing at my humble home gallery.
I set up my Chrono to test of my home rolled rounds.
I have some Evil Roy Powder Inc. made 45 APC I got several years ago, I do not know what the powder or charge is
They are cast 230 grain bullets , beyond that a mystery... @ 10 yards I was shooting 3.5 inch a bit right of POA.
My loading was more to my likening out of the revolver I used SNS hi-tech coated 230 grain bullets ( thanks to John Saffern who gave them to me
)
I started with 4.2 grains of Titegroup which shot @ 719 FPS and consistent + or - 7 FPS
I also noticed my group spread was tighter @ 2.5
I have worked up tp 4.4 grains TG zipping along @ 780 FPS but groups opened some ( maybe just me
)
I have not tried my loads in any of my 1911's yet , but I have used the Evil Roy stuff in my Cimarron and it was acceptable at
SASS wild bunch target range...Wild Bunch shoots went belly up in my area.
I'm hoping to attend a
*BAMM match* , I think the M1917 will be my go to . ( however my 1911 will be along too)
*BANN Match* would be road trip to NC hooking up with Baltimore Ed's shooting bunch ...if all goes well, and the creek don't rise
