Cerro Safe (photo added)

I cast a chamber on a Remington Rolling block today....fought me tooth and nail.... but I got it

Kind of sad old gun, in that it was cut down to 21" and the foreshock cut off square 1/2 of inch in front of the 1st barrel band.
It was mint bore too  :'( in 43 Spanish
The receiver and action was NICE ...sadly the barrel had 3 screw holes and  a mounted  Weaver Scope   ::)  too

the horror  :o

Seems the owners Dad,  I think, had it and they did not know the caliber....

Unsure.... my friendly FFl ask me to do the cast, he said " their next question coming might be"  "  would I load some rounds "

My answer was a polite "No" ,  but in my mind it was " absolutely NO, no way "
aside from I have nothing for 43 Spanish ( brass, dies or bullets ) I want nothing to do with any such venture , for liabilities reasons.

It is a shame what some bubba did to it... :'(

best bet would be to re-barrel it and replace the front stock, etc. Barrels and the wood turn up on flea-bay sometimes, or you could possibly turn it into a long range gun in a more modern (45-70 etc.) cartridge.

I've added a photo of the "Bizarro"   square world  piece  ( Superman comic reference )

Note: the aluminum mount for the scope , ( barrel is drilled for 3 screws ), there is also some kind of ramp front sight and a V  block rear sight.
The Barrel was dove tailed for front sight and it is open and visible under the ramp thing !

There is no Rust pitting on either the receiver or barrel in fact there's original bluing under the butchered foreshock.

The best thing "if it could be rescued, would be re- barrel and replace the foreshock, the butt stock aside from the polyurethane coated finish is pretty nice....

I am such a sucker for mudpuppies that I am glad we aren't near each other or I would be trying to figure out a way to get that little beast going again with some dignity. Unsolder front sight, get rid of the aluminum mount...

The thought has been discussed between myself and good friend ...

"if"  it were to be available say at $200  ...then a foreshock , to carbine style ...either a reworked donor or a tip grafted duffle cut style.

remove the offending  sight and alum mount, strip the stock and linseed oil finish....

But it would be a 43 Spanish...at $3.50 a shell case each...costly to load ,  still perhaps a worthy mudpuppy restore.

course a nice 45/70 barrel & new donor foreshock, would be better

The owner was happy with the cast outcome ( re-discovering the chambering "if" he ever knew  :-\ )

Asked my FFL to order him some rounds , as he was not detoured when he was told  $87.99 for 20 rounds course they are backordered at Ventura  for now

also out of stock @  Buffalo Arms $80.79 for 20...
