Title: Coffee for Hallmark Holiday Month

Send a card, buy some candy hearts, catch a social disease, it's that month again. ;D

Guess I need to post this here !   :-\

Well we could do that one and something else with the onion soup.  Thinking make the broth with some roast made into small chunks and leave them in the soup which the high society people don't do but gives us some meat also, a veggie and a cobbler would be great.

Wanting to keep it very good quality food but want to make it a little easier on the cook, doing better everyday but may not be back to full speed by June and sadly may never make it back up to full.  Not that it matters but I think Jerry needs to get me a Handicap Parking sign. ;D   I am going to refuse to give up as long as i can.

That is the spirit

Actually, I make a stew with beef , either a chuck , rump or stew beef and onion soup , add carrots & mushrooms

you can add potato's ( I don't cause I'm off the carbohydrates ) but sweet potato works.

Morning all.

28 degrees with freezing fog in Missoula this morning. Supposed to get to mid 30s.

Today’s plans are to clean a truck stop grease trap system, followed by pumping a broken septic tank so it can be replaced, and reinstalling a lift pump in a system that pumps septage uphill to the city sewer.

Started S**wing around 10:00 last night, still coming down, have some bands stalled right over the valley and it's coming down about 2 inches a hour. supposed to be that way until 6 or 7:00 tonight then taper off then stop around 10:00pm. will give a total tomorrow. I hate the cold and S**w!!

A stew would be another day.  I think beef stew, corn bread and some sort of cobbler for a meal is required to get your Dutch Oven badge from Yuppie Scouts of America.  ::)  But you have to use the charcoal chat app on you I phone to do it. ;D   Oh and buy a dutch oven cooking for Yuppies book because the Betty Crocker ones won't work in a dutch oven. ::)

Here in Lincoln they installed the sewage plats at two of the lowest levels in town.

Nice day, going on a walk, parked clear in the back at the store despite to cripple tags hanging on the mirror.   Real air not through a mask felt good.  Rita can't drive yet she was worried about if I fell on some lazy persons unscooped sidewalk, told her I'd call 911, note the address and talk to which ever ambulance chaser follows us in.   A little irritated about cars unmoved on streets and walks not scooped, mine are done, had to pay someone but they are done.

The city sewer plants are lower geographically than most of town. But a lot of the town is below the main sewer lines, and the septage has to be pumped to it.

I'm back, it happened, the Ice Age they told us in the early 70's that would happen before 2000 was late, can go a little over a block and then I run into problems.  Don't understand, city has a law says sidewalks have to be cleaned with in 24 ours of storm ending, been 6 days, they used to send crews out and scoop them, charge for it at a high rate and fine you.  Guess they are afraid of offending people like with the cars on the street with snow on them yet. ::)

Got some good wieners for supper, if Roo stops by don't tell him they are made with lamb guts. ::)   Wife wanted chili on hers, opened one of her cans of Hormels, got some of it on my finger, licked it off, never again, drinking iced tea to get rid of the taste.  Got Wolf with no beans for emergency but she likes that other stuff. :-X

Its been on borrowed time...it was installed in 1979 for the previous owner of the property....
It was for a manufactured home at the time,  I bought the property in 88 , lived in the MH *  as I built my house, I completed in 91.
I just hooked on to it to save Building costs , it is fiberglass tank... and the plastic drain field is now shot ( heck I got 30 years out of it  :P .....

I could just replace the DF , but the tank size is not to current code for the # bedrooms & baths  dishwasher and laundry etc.
County wouldn't issue a permit.
Actually to replace the tank is only about $1100 added to the replacing the field anyway.

Soooo....  I figure , if we decide to sell and move to a smaller place , a new Septic system is a perk point  :-\

* sold the manufactured home and had it hauled off when the house got its CO

Ah. Honestly I’m surprised that tank has lasted this long. If you’re looking for suggestions, I would recommend a plastic-lined concrete tank with a removable baffle (preferably plastic, for ease of replacement if things go sideways),or a reusable effluent filter, and a drain line no bigger than 3”. From a septic serviced standpoint, some chunks of rebar at the midway point and end of each leach line helps us locate them, and we can dig up the ends and run a pressure jetter through if the drain field isn’t draining, which saves a lot of money over having to have an excavator replace a clogged field.  :)

Also, for anyone else on septic, a product called Fizzy-Tabs is an excellent thing to add to your tank once a year for general tank health. A pound or two of granulated sugar washed down the drain mid-winter is also a good preventative maintenance measure that can help your tank biome stay fresh.

We normally charge $75 for this “consultation,”  but y’all are getting it for free. ::)

Thanks Kid,  aside from having to fork over now which sorta sucks,

I saved much "dinero" back 30 years ago. I was looking at 10 grand, what with , perk test , engineering , equipment purchase and labor.
The hit is not nearly as bad now,  in that it is a replacement , so permit fees are grandfathered in .

In other news , I joined the HERD got my 1st. Covid shot this morning ,
no ill effect so far...except for urge to ...MOO and cross the creek up stream   :-*

I like the fact the "strays" don't want a Covid vaccination, every one on the list ahead of me that turns it down means mine is closer.  Just have got to the point I don't care about people who don't care about themselves.   People have bitched and moaned for years FDA takes to long to get the approval for new medicines then one went through in the time it should take and they still ain't happy. ::)     Kent said I was welcome to use the picture of his misadventure.

Well dang, just ate some eggs and sausage I vacuum packed and froze as a spearmint.  1/2 hour in boiling water and they were as good as before.  Next project is get the 20inch skillet out and make a big bunch.

Any way check glucose 20 minutes after eating, 105.     BP was 132/63 and HR was 77.   Me thinks I'm getting this whipped.   Heard on the radio they are now doing heart valves with out cracking the chest, my DR said by passes may be next, would be great because they could fix my bad graft, would love to get it up to snuff.

As a kid, I recall the 1950s, when the very real, utterly devastating effects of polio overshadowed any hypothetical questions of vaccine safety....
We receive ours at school , I don't recall there was a choice .

About that time , researchers just about eradicated Small Pox worldwide .

I'll side with immunization....

Deep freeze doesn't get here until tomorrow, and then for the next week the guessers say no temps above freezing. Mid 30s and muddy here. Set out some round bales for the critters, fixed some fence. Left battery tender hooked up to tractor, plan on moving some hay on the frozen ground this week. Still have a bunch of them lined up in the (rather soft) hayfield, gonna bring them closer to where they'll be needed.

Evening all.

Currently-2 with wind chill of -17- -35, and blowing snow. Six inches in the past 12 hours.

Had to do qualification with an M4 today. It’s not terribly difficult, 24 rounds at 25 meters on six targets of varying size. And you get a red dot for it. Someone from finance managed to fail, the other 6 of us passed. I got 23/24, the miss being a flinch that put my little bullet just outside the hit zone. I can live with a 23.

Good Morning All!
Salmon and scrambled eggs with toast for breakfast. Hot mystery coffee, an indeterminate flavor.

It's all of 5℉ this am, rocketing to a high of 6℉ today. Gonna do some maintenance on the snowblower, as expecting 3" - 6" starting tomorrow morning into an Arctic weekend.

Spit it out . . .

I cannot read that phrase without cracking up at an Irish joke OklaTom tells. Something about an Irishman finding a fly swimming in his shot of whiskey which he plucks out, shaking it violently over the mouth of the glass and demands "Spit it out!!"

Moving slow today, went running errands for over 6 hours yesterday, got groceried up again.    Got BIL set, carried part of them in, my helper got the heavy stuff.   Taxes are done, was plain tired and Rita fixed supper last night, heated up some of my sloppy joe stash.   Got in and checked BP and was 117/65 and HR of 85.  not bad for a phat old man with problems.

Rita went to appointment and is running a friend who don't drive, they have to get me pretty soon to get Lexie and get some toilet paper and some more food bags in case I generate lefteovers.  Got an Eastern Africa blend on coffee to add to the stash, want to try it but need vacuum bags for most of it.   Could have spent a lot on coffee yesterday, COSCO had several I don't have but want.   Loaded up on snacks, got Brazil nuts, English Walnuts and dried apricots.   Big COSCO bags. ::)

Up to a toasty 13, headed for a high of 14. Guessers are guessing -11 Tuesday. Making a mighty effort to thaw pipes today, before the bottom really drops out tomorrow. Got 2 places where the trench wasn't filled in yet, still had some work to do there. Built a long narrow fire alongside the pipe, covered with an old piece of tin. First one I did thawed already, got my frost free hydrant flowing again. At least the hydrant didn't freeze, just the place where I had some valves, set down in a piece of culvert pipe.

In other(culinary) news, catfish (store bought) for lunch in a few minutes.

Was +4 a bit ago, I remember saying asking yesterday if anyone NEEDED anything else, was not planning on going anywhere till Thursday morning (that sub or almost sub zero air just burns my lungs).  Well someone forgot they needed the big boo boo Band-Aids for incisions that are leaking.  A no on the duck tape and paper towel. ::)  Well since it's a pain for her to get dressed with the sump pump I went, not a bad thing, had a rash start on my arm and no goop for that to be found and by Thursday who knows, it might have needed amputated.  Or I could wear the collar of shame.

Kitchen store?  Did otto-connect bite you in the butt? ;D

So much for staying in till Thursday morning, wife sprung a leak, called Dr and went in to his office, was a hematoma that was breaking up, normal, but messy.   We thought that was what it was but wanted to make sure.   The Band-Aids ain't big enough to stop it so he suggested getting a box of panty liners.   So we stopped at the store and I went in since she has blood stains on her sweats.  Got a box and went up front, two young guys, yeah I know the drill, I worked retail, before he could ask me if I wanted a sack (yes, guys always do) I said what a hell of a night and told him what happened and how there was blood and drainage all over and how these would work well and how every first aid kit should have maxi pads and duck tape in them.  Hope they got their normal color back before the next customer, I hate dealing with green cashiers. ::) ;D

I shouldn't laugh but I did, they are going to do some of these rolling black outs here.    Anyway they just started in January running coal trains on a line that had been shut down.  Coal to the plant at Nebraska City, one of our major suppliers.  Well looked at a map, first area shut down is the new neighborhood near the tracks that have been complaining about the noise of the twice a day trains.   Both about 8 am and pm.    No I shouldn't laugh, but would have made the same decision. ;D  Area is probably full of 'lectric cars also.

Forced power outages started up here in Omaha, too.
Looking for low tonight of -30℉ actual temperature. Doesn't make sense, as an hour without heat and when they turn the electricity back on, the furnace will run twice as long to reheat the house . . .
Cold cuts for dinner tonight.

BUT!!!!! National Weather Service predicts a high next Monday of 39℉. Everyone will be out in their shorts and sandals.

All these people who say stuff it we make our own are now using because them solar panels are covered with snow and ice, might as well be night, half the windmills in Texas are froze up, they are deicing them with helicopters. ::)  Germany messed them selves up so bad by shutting most the coal plants down they are very short and buying what others will sell them which ain't much.

Boiling hot coffee is on. Daughter has to be up for work at 5:00, so I'm on call to drive her if her car doesn't start.

Schools are closed, so grandson can sleep in. I think later we'll go out on the back porch with a cup of hot water and do that experiment where you throw it up in the air and it instantly freezes into an ice storm. He'll get a kick out of that.

Everyone stay safe and limit your exposure to this cold weather as much as you can.

Good luck on the toy store run. Hasn't been any primers and not much powder at my LGs for some time. I think any ammo he gets comes from individuals, not "the system". He pays what he has to pay to get it, and it's priced on the shelf accordingly. Last time I was there, I bought some lead ingots, not sure the alloy but they seemed really hard, I mixed them with some of my wheel weight metal and cast some into 6.5 bullets from a "new to me" Lyman mold from E-bay.

Course when the 22 shortage ended, a year or so ago.... I bought CCI Clean-22 High Velocity , Standard Velocity, Aguila Extra
and CCI 22 shorts stocking up.... but I won't sell it , just wanted to not sweat the next big shortage.

In other news ,( I had not mention not to dash my luck  ) the shoe box of primers ( estate sale ) was not to be.
There this lady (widow) who is selling her late husbands guns, some very nice guns indeed
3 Ruger New Model Super Blackhawk Bisley Single Action revolvers ( two with True Ivory grips )
A 458 Winchester and a 308 on Mauser actions with scopes
A Shiloh Sharps in 45 -110  with Tang sight ( $3000 ) still available BTW ( no dog in the fight )

and a shoe box of primers ( unknown quantity) , a Dillon 550 , a Rock Crusher , Misc. Brass in 458win & 308 + 44 mag. brass
which she had later decided to sell as a LOT .

I wanted the primers,  but they went with the LOT above.... @ $2000 - 2500  :-\
I did not get the opportunity to view or bid....though I was interested in the primers , but it was not to be  :(

I'm talking about the ones that buy everything in site that they really don't need because it's scarce.  What I've been hearing from gun shows I'm surprised some dare to take a piss for fear of being beat for scalping.

Morning y'all.
Coffee and tea are hot.

First full sunny day in a while here.
Seen a few Robins, however the starlings are still in swarms here in the morning. The cats and our big dog run them off in the morning. Sending them to Slim.

Thanks for the coffee - glad all made it thru the big freeze
Don't need starlings, yet or ever.

Not going to pay $.06/primer. Not that hard up, yet.  ::)
But did pick up another Colt Police Positive. This one in .32-20.

'Tis 17 and overcast. "Cloudy with snow showers this morning and steady snow likely this afternoon. High 31F. Winds SE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of snow 90%. 1 to 3 inches of snow expected."

Wife & I scheduled for first vaccine shot Tuesday, with second just before my leaving for the 2021 NCOWS Congress and Convention in latter March.

Plans so far are to take the dog out, vacuum the house, and then be lazy.

Never had one that paid much attention to music, I listen to Pink Floyd a lot napping and he just gets all excited and just cuddles up and licks me. 8)  Was talking with Norton who got him for me tonight and he said he was the most unique one he'd ever seen and he only had him 2 weeks.

He can still give you the stink eye that makes you want to say "what the hell did I do this time?"

Why do they call a pigs shoulder a butt?

A butt of wine is 126 gallons and weight 1000 pounds, so a butt load is 1/2 a ton and a tun holds 252 gallons and weighs about 2000 pounds.

My butt don't weigh a 1000 pounds nor is it my shoulder.

If I run at you and hit you with my head that's also a butt as well as what is left after smoking a cigar.

If I glue to boards together end to end I butt them up. ::)

So a man of 14 or 15 stones could drink maybe a hogshead of wine in a short period. However traveling he may need a horse of 16 hands. A few more horse of equal size, to carry is ration of 2 hogs heads or a butt with him for the journey.

Good Morning All!
Hot coffee is in those little plastic cups, water is hot . . .

Bacon, eggs and toast for everyone as soon as the Grandson is up.
We started seeds for the vegetable garden last week, indoors. Tomato, kale, broccoli and bush beans, others to follow.

A murder of crows has moved into the neighborhood and are making their opinion known with their loud cawing. These are the huge War Crow fellows, so the Winter kill being revealed by the receding snow will get cleaned up.
Nature's balance is wonderful to ponder this Sunday.

Went to the Post Office yesterday, and the Secondhand Sports equipment store next door was having a sale. Saw four guys in their 20-somethings each carrying out golf clubs in a bag. Evidently some kind of Spring Ritual is coming. No doubt will involve lots of energy. Hope springs eternal.

When we had our landline phone put in last month, they had to wait several days so the guys could come and mark all the buried wires. The marker guys showed up-the day AFTER they buried the phone lines, and marked them nicely. Also marked the newly buried electric lines, although the orange marker paint didn't show up as well on the mound of red clay where we buried the electric wire.
