I have a pot of Fresh Green beans with a ham bone in French onion soup simmering.
Not traditional I guess, :-\ Southern superstition holds that people who eat black-eyed peas on New Year's Day will be blessed with a year's worth of good luck.
The myths seem to all stem around the WBTS or be traced back to Africa.
My Folks followed the tradition so by extension I did as well, when I was a kid.
I just happen to prefer green beans.... I just sampled a little taste,  :D GOOOOOD ....

I've heard the Covenant aka the Holy Land and about any cultural group there and when ever they celebrate the New Year.  The Shrepatic  sp Jews in Iberia didn't like the surprises by the Spanish Inquisition and some moved late in the 17th century to Georgia aka the one here, not the one near Russia.  They were friendly with the natives and it came through that.

Of course Uncle Billy knew what they were because they were common in the North and he could and likely did feed them to men and horses.

There is a similar story about oatmeal pie that can't be dated to before Quaker Oats that was cause Uncle Billy stole all the pecans.  That story has so many holes in it that it ain't funny.

If you call to make a Dr appointment and you get the scheduling person laughing thats good, if you have to set up two and get both then your mission for the day is accomplished.   ;D

Tired something, among things they give you when they give you boxes of food for the old and poor is instant mashed tater, :P and powdered milk. :P  And no one really wants them.

Add them to bread, saves on flour, need a slightly lower heat baking.  Very crusty and look no big cracks and when I cut it I doubt there is holes that let the good stuff leak out. ;D

No modern art artisan bread for me, don't understand, like holes in jeans some want that. ::)

Morning all.

Slim, you have the TK family condolences.

Yesterday was Mine and Mrs. TK’s 1 year anniversary. I had a nice fancy dinner planned out that I was going to surprise her with after work, but that never happened. Instead her anniversary gift was an emergency tooth filling replacement. It’s thought that counts, I guess.

Afternoon all.

Y’all are making me jealous with your above freezing temperatures. 21 here overnight, currently 30.  ::)

On todays to-do list, I have some trailer work, horse feeding and dog petting. Beyond that, I’ve been reading a book and assisted in the cooking of a pot of spaghetti.

And now for a soapbox moment: I needed to buy lightbulbs at China-Mart last night for the chandelier in the kitchen. Specifically I needed 40w fluorescent bulbs. I like LED, but they burn out in this fixture in about a week for whatever reason. Walmart does not sell fluorescent bulbs anymore. I ended up buying 25 watt incandescent bulbs (for $6 each). I understand that LED is better, more efficient etc. but they don’t work in this fixture at all. I’m tired of replacing them once a week. I just want twisty bulbs.

Consider this soapbox returned to the pile.

I got stabbed, last week with (bivalent) Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.
No ill effects or reaction noticed.
When I had covid last June, I had the sore throat for about 4 days and fatigue about a week.
My prior Pfizer shots & booster had worked in keeping my bout from getting seriously ill, I believe.

I've gotten a Flu shot for years; I suppose the Covid Shot is the new reality.

You just copied my homework ::) they’re nice little shooters, just be careful as they have short chambers and not all factory 357mag ammo will actually fit right. Specifically, I’ve had Armscor 158gr FMJ and Grizzly Ammo Co. 180gr HC-LRN cause the cylinder to bind. Both are right at max SAAMI OAL.

Had a snowy one in Missoula today, got a fresh inch. After the day job, went and fed horses.

Also sold my GMC truck today. Didn’t get as much as I’d hoped for, but enough to pay it off and have some left over to buy parts for the other buggies in the stable.

My Mod 36 is not +P rated either, hence the Hornady's
I have two boxes of 25 each but have not had occasion (thank God) or need to use them.
I just use my re-loads or some BH Cowboy loads I acquired along the way. when I range shoot it.
The Mod 36 has not seen any pocket time, since I bought the SIG 365.
I never imagined I'd assimilate to the black gun side, the little SIG won me over.
There something to be said about 12 rounds VS 5 rounds  :-X

I got it from Elmer Keith’s “Sixguns.” Updated for modern 2400 powder, it would be a 170gr KSWC (Lee mold 358156) over 12.0gr of 2400 at 1.550” OAL. According to data available it should make about 24,000 psi., so above +P pressure.

Guessers are calling for a high of 33 degrees today, oh boy. Supposed to drop into the single digits at night again starting tomorrow.

On todays docket we have laundry, a trip to Murdoch’s for socks and dog biscuits, then feeding of the equestrians this evening. Hopefully tonight I can avoid electrical fixtures. Last night I got popped by the electric fence while trying to get some hay off of it. Then a second zapping picking up the end of an extension cord. Nobody told me that a horse had stepped on the end and broken the housing, but I did find that out myself.  ::)

In my college days as an Art Major in photography, I had stopped the car while out driving in the country to capture that perfect shot of cows in a field before a treeline. I carefully metered the shot while approaching the fence and adjusting lens aperture and speed, re-metered to make sure of the setting, then absolutely shocked myself silly because I had run into the electrified fence.
The shock must have been too much for the through-the-lens metering system on that camera as it never did work reliably afterwards. Hard lesson learned.

I got ZANGED but good once, I was on my way out feed my beasties.
This was about 25 -or so years ago.
We had those gate spring tensioners disconnects one low and one at about 6 feet.
I could disconnect the low one and open the gate and walk under...or so I thought !
Bent down and took the lower off, stood up opened the gate, and bald spotted the upper one....
ZANG   :o bit my tongue, reared back and bald spotted it again  >:(  I coined many a NEW colorful exclamation that morning, especially since my wife thought it was hysterical !   >:( >:(

A wet and dreary day here, but rain held off after church long enough to feed cows, clean up a little in my shed, saw some thorn trees and fix a short in the electric fence.

Delmonico, last week I was able to get a couple bags of that Bronze Chief wheat flower at the local Wal Mart. So they still carry it, but like lots of other things, supply isn't consistent.

I found it again, tried some others and not as good. Started a sourdough Friday.  Kirk retired from the brew supplies and I was forced to either use the place named after the lady warriors or the river or drive to Omaha with out a real need.  Process was successful and sorta painless so I am no longer the only one left that hasn't, but won't make a habit of it.  Sometimes you have to do distasteful things.  But got 5 packages of my yeast I need.   Got my local rye also.

Still ain't watched any Yellowstone of any era and likely won't, never watched any Deadwood.  Didn't watch any NFL this weekend either. ;D

I have seen a total of about ten minutes of Yellowstone,  solely because someone in the guard unit turned it on during a drill weekend. It was promptly booed until it was turned off. I wasn’t a fan. I did meet a couple of the actors while down in the Bitterroot area in the fall though. They were nice enough.

Today hit about 32 degrees with scattered snow flurries. That’s about all there is to say about it, really. Topping the day off with a batch of chocolate chip cookies in the oven (using Bronze Chief).

The big problem is Costner is involved and I have better things to do than watch him.  Have seen him in 2 movies both westerns, no idea why they chose him.  ::)

Sourdough was a great success, but I'm a failure at that artisan bread, couldn't get big cracks in the crust and no big Swiss Cheese holes for the melted butter and the jelly to drip through.  Used bacon drippings also, but that's Yuppie approved now because you can buy it in stores.  I made my own. ;D

31 and some light slush falling from the sky.

Spent yesterday teaching a coworker to drive a manual, and also do my job. He’s a good guy, a little too worried about traffic laws while learning to shift on a private dirt road.

On todays list, I get to drive to Idaho to pick up a portapotty, then go feed horses.

I remember how I learned to drive a manual shift.  It consisted of being told how to do it, then being turned loose in an A&P grocery store parking lot.
Oh I forgot to mention the fully articulated snow plow on the front, the foot of snow in the lot I was supposed to push to the corners, the light poles to avoid and this had to be done before the store opened!  Somehow the poles, the truck (clutch, transmission, body and all) and me all survived and I came out a “clutcher”.  Oh, and this was done at around 3:00 AM, while snowing, and I was only 18.  Needless to say traffic laws were not even on my mind ;D.

I'll bet your pasture didn't have 3 ft diameter bunkers planted around it.  Try an evade all those critters in your attempt to raise, lower and tilt the plow at the same time.  Reminds me of the Kids "one legged man in a butt kicking contest".  I did say I survived, as well as the truck and a large portion of the light bases.

Supposed to hit 35 tonight, then mid 50s tomorrow. Gonna check at the Consignment shop tomorrow for a dehydrator or toaster oven, needed for my brass drying. It's the half-price weekend, so wish me luck. Also, brought home 2 guns today. A Uberti Schofield back from Cimmaron , got a new cylinder as the first was miscut and split brass on one hole. The other is a mud puppy S&W Victory that has been given some strange attention lavished on it over the years. Pics in the Zoot forum here.

I learned to drive a stick from the beginning, in my Dad's '65 Ford Falcon. Seven miles of gravel road out to my Grandparents' farm. That thing had a really touchy clutch, pedal only moved about 1/2 inch from fully disengaged to fully engaged. Was easy to kill that little 200 cubic inch six it had. Good training vehicle!

Completed a little "smithing" for the LGS yesterday on a Remington 7400.
The gun had been stored, 14 years in a closet.
It needed a detail cleaning, and the stock finish at the butt plate was munged up from oil draining down.
Finish that and the guy wanted to buy and have a scope mounted. I did so and bore sighted it.

I get little projects like that from time to time, adds "alms" to my Gun a holic fund.

45 this morning, Haircut for a photo, because I have to renew my CCW permit, and they require a current mug shot.

Well, I got to work and my sub was already there, seems the supervisor had thought I wanted to take today off in exchange for working last Saturday. So I thought-that's a great idea! So here I am at home, on a sunny, mid 40's Friday.

When I was in the Army, as a motor pool mechanic, they had me teach some of the drivers how to drive a stick. There was a big gravel parking lot out behind motor pool row, took them out there in an M-151 Jeep. Some of them had grown up in the city, and never even learned to drive before Uncle Sam wanted them to. One girl was excited to get to learn to drive a "boy" car. She said automatics were "girl" cars and sticks were "boy cars".

I taught my wife to drive on a floor shift Datsun pick-up. She'd only driven automatics up until then.

Good morning and may God bless! 49 here, gonna get to 55 today and sunny! Will be nice because the rest of the week will be in the 30s. Gotta lot of work this week, both hours and chores. A gentleman is bringing in some 19th Century Winchesters for us to sell for him, and they have been sadly neglected for 50 years. Since I'm the "old gun guy" there I will be tearing them down and seeing what we are actually dealing with. Also, had a lady bring an Ortgies pistol in yesterday, her Grandpa's gun, and I tore it down and worked on it some, hopefully the Ballistol will loosen some more crud out of the barrel as overall externally, it's pretty nice little gun.
Anyway, getting ready for Church in a bit, the Missus is felling well enough to go after recovering from a bad bout with the Wu-Flu.

Currently -15, WC -31 in the Five Valleys as of 0940. They told everyone to come in at 10:30 so it could warm up a bit, but the mercury went the other direction. I guess I’m still supposed to come in, though I won’t get much done considering the pump won’t run when it’s this cold and everything I need to pump with it is a solid. But, I suppose it’s no skin off my nose if they want to pay me to drive in circles all day ::)

After work Mrs TK and I will be going to the barn to show off our trailer to a potential buyer, and hopefully they’ll drive away with it.

Run everyone around, was 9F came home and my lungs hurt so I took a nap till the kid called and had to go get her, pulled her sciatic nerve the other day.  Came home to rest, no problem about graduating so she's resting so she can go to work.  Kid works 30+ hours a week.  Wants to wait on college if all, would rather have a good paying job that don't require it.   They trust her to close 2 nights a week, I think she'll do fine, having her mother and dad as examples helps.  Some people can always serve as a bad example and still be4 semi useful. ;)

Likely going to work on pictures some more today.  The last month I got all cooking related pictures from 5.7 Gig to 1.92 Gig and separated into files.  Can lay hands on anything I need and got real quick.  Still need to do some rearranging and renaming of files, but got rid of a lot of unneeded stuff.

I read just today there is Bill to allow people to carry concealed loaded guns anywhere without permits under legislation endorsed Monday by House Speaker Paul Renner and the Florida Sheriffs Association.
Dubbed “constitutional carry,” by supporters, the concept behind the bill (HB 543) also has the backing of Gov. Ron DeSantis.
That is, Florida would become the 26th State to allow CCW, no permit needed.
As stated, I just paid the $45 fee to renew mine (at present required to carry concealed) and a fresh mugshot within 30 days it says. No new fingerprints and no requalification are required.
If, and I have little doubt the Bill will pass, I'm quite sure there is no refund, in fact should the Bill pass, you can still get a permit if you choose, anyway.

WE do not have an open carry....

Thanks for the reminder, I just now checked my CCW and it expires in June, this year. Missouri does have "constitutional carry", BUT, having the CCW has some advantages. The list of prohibited places is different when you have the license. Also, there's the reciprocity issue.
As long as I renew before it expires, no need to take the class again. No photo on ours, either.

I don't have to renew my CCW,it's issued for life, I just have to "Re certify" that I still have the guns listed on my permit, I have sold/traded/bought some since that last re-cert so I had to go through my list and update it. I'm good for either 3 or 5 years now.

There is no listing of guns required here, I'm glad of that too. :)
One other advantage is there is no waiting period, so called "cool off" rule... with a permit you can buy and walk out with your purchase same day.
Without your permit its 3 working days.

The so-called SHEEP ZONES, I avoid anyway I:E School campuses, Starbucks, Bars, Establishments less than 70% food to booze ratio.
Seldom use Gov. buildings, PO's on occasion, but just a quick in and out, and I'll
 take off the piece then.
If there is a "no gun" policy posted, unless I really must patronize them, I'll pass and go where the 2nd Amendment is welcome.
I'm not an activist, just feel soft and more vulnerable in advertised sheep zones and avoid them.

-5, WC to -8, and more white stuff falling.

Montana is a Constitutional Carry and open carry state. They offer permits, but all you gain is reciprocity to other states. Fortunately the only state I frequent is Idaho, which is also a constitutional carry state, so I’ve just saved my $35.

Once I’m back in CA, I’ll have to jump through their hoops, including but not limited to: $100/2 years, photo/fingerprints on renewal, 8 hour training course before initial issue (waived for veterans), interview with sheriff (should be more social than anything, considering I worked for him before), and a printing fee for a laminated card.
