The sounds of shooting
« on: April 26, 2022, 10:50:31 PM »
;D This weekend we had the Arkansas State Black Powder Championship at our club, Outlaw Camp. I went to hang out and enjoy some spectacular weather and kibitz. While watching one of the Posses I noticed that there were 4 types of shooters there:
1. Smokeless with light loads, a quiet pop
2. Smokeless with real, non-mousefart loads, a solid bang
3. Black powder 'light' loads, a sorta bang
4. Black Powder with full house loads, a loud BOOM
It was fun watching the light load smokeless shooters, jump and cough when the warthog BP 10 gauge shotguns went off!

 :)  Oh Pull-Ease  ;)

Of course I get it.  I just think it sort of unkind to poke fun at people for playing the game at their chosen level - Just as SASS - originally intended.  Just kink of a left handed slap in my book.

The game has evolved for sure. Downloading larger calibers to be easier to handle is one thing.  But somehow I doubt that the SASS originators envisioned there having to be a smoke standard rule for those who want to download BP to a bare minimum.  People who are at those bare minimums for gamer reasons (as opposed to folks who simply can't shoot any more powerful loads than that - and those folks are few and not fast), shouldn't complain if people make fun of their loads.  IMO, of course.

Why are people shooting smokeless in a BP championship match?

I can only speak for the Texas state match (Regulator's Revenge at Green Mountain the last few years).  This match serves as the club's annual match as well as the state SASS BP match.  Also, twice as many people will show up if smokeless is allowed, which is much better for the club financially.

Hoya Coffin, anyone can shoot anything they want! I want our sport to grow. It just hit me funny [I know, I have a twisted sense of humor] but I wasn't trying to be mean.
