The Leather Shop / Re: Weight leather for cartridge money belts
« Last post by Cliff Fendley on January 25, 2022, 02:19:43 PM »
Are you guys using anything to reinforce the area with the cartridge loops? I've made exactly one money belt out of 4-5oz and the loops are all but unusable because the belt is not stiff enough to support the loops. These are woven, which  may make the difference. I thought about using a strip of 8-9oz, if not 12-14oz in between the two layers of 4-5oz just to stiffen it where the loops are woven through it.

I almost always sew the loops on money belts. Money belts are typically too thin for full woven loops. I've made exactly one that I recall and used 6-7oz leather on that belt. I have done quite a few semi-woven loops money belts and that works pretty good. 99% though have sewn loops.

Edit to add. I think you could get by adding a strip to the back of the front side to thicken it up. I was looking at an original Al Furstnow money belt I have and it has the front side of the belt doubled up. The belt appears to be made with about 4oz leather.
CAS City Classifieds / WTB/WTT: Ruger 44 Special or 41 Mag
« Last post by LongWalker on January 25, 2022, 01:44:00 PM »
I'm on the search for a couple of Ruger (non-Bisley) Blackhawks: 44 Special flattop and 6 1/2" 41 mag.

For trade bait I have a gently-used 44 special Flattop (5 1/2" barrel) and a Cimarron 32-20 (7 1/2" barrel).  Given the current situation with brass etc, I can kick in brass/dies/maybe even moulds for the right trade.

Thanks for looking,

I would agree with your comments. I felt it was a nice easy paced film with a good ending. An interesting role for Tom Hanks but his supporting actress was in a single word superb. I now have the blue ray of the film so can watch again at leisure.

Could the bone toggles be for attaching some other accessory? Other than that, perhaps they're decorative.

These are botas/leggings from around 1900-1920. They are held together at the top by buckles. But there are also bone toggles. What are they holding together, since the buckles seem to be doing the work?
