When I dye with solvent based dye like Fiebings or Lincoln, I put alcohol in a spray bottle and thoroughly spray the leather with it before dying so the dye spreads evenly into the leather. If I want a lighter color than the dye would produce, I thin it with alcohol first.
When fully dry, I follow that with a thin application of Skidmore's leather cream or Lexol leather conditioner. Of those two, I prefer Skidmore's.
