Little Bighorn Battlefield Relics

We were investigating the circumstances around the Custer Battle and found a few more artifacts. Although the artifacts we found were no where near the battlefield, we were able to get down on the river and actually stand where are Reno made his retreat across the Little Bighorn River and look up the ravine where the water carriers brought water from the river to the dehydrated troops in top of the bluffs..

That is so neat. To look at that place and all its beauty, its hard to picture the sounds and smells of battle.

Can you read the case head stamp. Wondering what date is on it? Very cool find for sure!

There is no head stamp. This cartridge is a Custer battle era cartridge, copper case, inside primed…

Benet primed .45 cartridge production started in January 1874, but according to HWS III, some limited production occurred as early as September 1873.
