I am thinking of changing the date of the buff shoot to oct. 9-10 . Would this be a game changer good or bad for anyone. It is now scheduled for Sept 25-6. Please chime in as your input will have an effect on the outcome. jt
-
I'm thinking the Buffalo would apricate the stay of execution's ;D
-
Works for me, not sure of anything on my busy social calendar. I am lunching with the Rockerfellers the following weekend and tea with the Queen of Norway three days before, so all good. Wooly Dan and I have already “cut” up a buffalo, we are cooking a buffalo tongue friday night at the GAF Mustard. Oops, muster. Mustard is for the tongue.
I am thinking happy hour and forums may not be a great combo. ;D
-
I do have something going on Oct 10, but if I can shoot through on the 9th no problem.
-
We can do that
-
Can you chase a herd of them up north?
BTB
-
probably not , but you know where they will be.
-
Would Oct 2- 3 Be a worse, or better choice? Date will be set by Aug 1
-
The Buffalo shoot is rescheduled for Oct. 9-10 Near lebo ks. More info to follow soon. jt
-
What type rifles are used in the .22 Match?
-
Prefer single shots or bolt act. Levers must load one at a time. (time is only a tie breaker)
-

The date change sounds good to me. Do we need to pre register?
-
No , just show up. Will be good to see you!!
-
As of now I'm planning on coming, Trap
-
Man I'd like to make this. I don't get to shoot the Sharps enough. Can I ask what's the potential maximum range? Could I drive up saturday and shoot Sunday morning? Can you use cross sticks?
-
Ah, what the heck, got time off from work, I'll get on there early as I can Saturday.
-
Coordinates to the shoot 38.311308 -95.821358
-
Hi Trap, I think that needs to be -95.821358 on google maps, unless you have moved to China. I should be there bright and early on Saturday, and plan on camping Saturday night.
-
THanks MO wouldn't want to be there
-
If you are coming to the shoot, and want to eat from the chuckwagon, call Dave Sielert (620 341 1856) TODAY !!
-
Can we put this as a sticker on the targets since the Chiefs are trying to take out buffalo too?
-
One of the folks at the match mentioned he'd really like to find a "Quigley" styled rifle. This just showed up, bout as good as you can get.
https://shilohrifle.com/gun-inventory-room/st2173-sporter-3-military-45-70-34-hvy-oct/
Welp, already gone.
-
And I had a damn good time. This is both a fun and relaxing shoot. If you've got a big single shot and want to have a feel for "Getting a Stand" you need to come to this. Good chuckwagon food too!
-
Well, the Chiefs fared no better against the buffalo than I did, but I had a great time, just wish life did not get crazy that had me leaving early.
Look at the fun for those who weren't there.
-
Had a great time. Didn't hit much but had time to visit a lot of old friends. Trap and his helpers did a great job.
-
Glad you all had a good time, just too much for me going on. The herd
is moving north, 33 at the Milan rifle club this weekend, 3 herds of 11
160-280 yds.
BTB
-
That herd must be genetically damaged by grazing on Roundup Ready crops! Aren't they supposed to be migrating South in the Fall? I'm sure there won't be any left standing after you make your stand Billy!
B.N. Scotty
-
To BN Scotty, 28 out of 33 fell for me. We had 15 shooters, several that
used to shoot at Ackley, so we had some good shooters. I felt fortunate
to get the 1st place medal.
BTB
-
Nice shooting BTB, a 1st place medal for you does not surprise me!

Talk of Buffalo always reminds me of this story:

This years buff shoot will be Oct. 21-23 at the same location as last year. All particulars are also the same, so go to post # 11 on this thread to find out if you haven't been here before. The only thing I need to add is to let Duck Creek Dave know if you want to eat at the wagon. I will post more on that later. jt
-
Just starting to work on menu for Buffalo shoot. Any food allergies or dietary restrictions I should be aware of.
Duck Creek Dave
-
I am a pegan and really enjoy tofurkey. ;D
Actually big allergy to soy, otherwise good
-
Bringing the camper this year, be wanting that good chuck.
-
Dave I have always liked your fixers I will eat what you fix. Don’t pay any attention to Mo. Trap put me down to be there and if you need anything let me know.
-
Hey, like Glenn Close, I will not be ignored. ;D
mmm now I want some rabbit stew.
-
I am allergic to all food it makes me fat er. ;D Gary and I are planning on attending. We will eat at the wagon.
-
All responses related to food noted and appreciated. Including MoGo.
Dave
-
Trap,
Steve (Pappy Miles) and I will be there...with an appetite.
Will there be any activities on Friday?
Troy
-
If you want to shoot Fri. we can probably make that happen.
-
Personal schedule is a mess. Best case am there Friday to camp leaving Sunday. Worst case, will be there Saturday. Either way, buffalo beware!
-
Trap,
A group of us from Tejas will be coming in Thursday evening. It will be me and Pappy from the coastal plains, and Blue Bonnet, Gut shot, Close shave and another from the Dallas area.
Looking forward to seeing everyone!
Troy
-
Will this be a blanket shoot? One big bore and one 22?
-
Round count?
Blanket? I thought we were shooting buffalo.
-
Ha ha. Can you hit a blanket. 🦬
-
As long as it's nailed to the broad side of a barn.
BTB
-
My running buddy backed out. Miss Kay wont let me drive that far by myself. If I can talk her into riding along then I will be there.
-
I can't come (this year at least) but I'm curious about the course of fire, allowed firearms, etc.
-
None of that new fangled smokeyless powder allowed Ned. All the Big Shaggies were pretty much exterminated by the time it came around.
(attempt at humor only!) B.N. Scotty
-
I figured that. I've got the equipment to load black powder .50-70 loads. A shoot like that may be worth using it! What are the distances, etc.?
-
Somewhere this side of 300yds.
-
Round count for big bore 30
Round count for .22, 20
And Yes, it is a blanket shoot.
-
Ned, you need 30 rounds. Targets are 15 third scale steel bison scattered between 100-300 yards. You get 15 shots to knock them down. Then everyone moves back 75 yards or so and try again. The 50-70 is excellent for this. No sighters, no posted range. Guess your settings and shoot. I set for 200, started on the near ones holding low, then held higher as I moved back thru the herd.
Big bore single shots. I don't think BP is mandatory, but it does give best performance for the conditions. Them things weigh 60+ lbs, ya gotta load heavy! I'd say a 45-70-405 is marginal/minimum with 500 grains far better on the critters. They have to go down. Pretty much everybody shot seated off cross sticks.
It's a slow paced, one guy at a time event. Bring a chair, binoculars, a canteen, and good conversation. A fine way to spend a day!
-
That sounds like fun! I would think my '68 Springfield would be good for that. It's good to at least 300, and quite accurate. I'll have to start working up some loads.
-
Is it ok to come out Thursday? Be nice to get set up.
-
Add Snake to shoot list and chow. We will not be eating breakfast but all other meals.
-
Pending Delta airlines cooperating, i will be there friday afternoon and leaving Sunday morning.
-
Plenty of snake in Kansas? Tastes like chicken I hears . . .
-

...But tougher with more bones
-
Guys shooting 45-70-405s were not making much of an impression on the critters. They have to go down.
Oh well....guess I'll have a lot of double tapping for my load!
-
I shot 45/70 with 405s and 12.7 trail boss last year and they fell for me. There may have been one or two that didn’t fall. Shoot high.

You are saying "shoot high" like I'm able to control my shot placement.... :o

Okay...I had to Google the quote....another classic John Wayne line!

Okay...I had to Google the quote....another classic John Wayne line!
Me too!
I didn't realize the Civil War was fought with M-1879 Trapdoors. ::) ;)
-
For all its inaccuracies, that movie has some great lines.
Is the flap on your holster snapped or unsnapped, my Confederate friend?
Snapped, my Yankee friend.
Then, I guess I'm his pigeon.
-
It was a reasonable substitution for the Springfield 1865s they had obviously stolen, as the Springfield Armory is right along the way to Mexico. :D
-
Windage and elevation Mrs Langdon. Windage and elevation.
Those darned things that stick up from the barrel get in my way, and I can't see the target.

Lots easier to shoot blanks from for sure! (I doubt one in a hundred movie-goers noticed anyway.)
-
I am trying to think of the JohnWayne movie that takes place in the late 1840s where the use 1873 colts and 1892 Winchesters. Just recalled “Comancheros”. Mind is slow. Quote For MO. “I am not your friend””.
-
I think there will be some campers thur. No shooting till fri. It is very dry, so NO Smoking or camp fires. Dave will be cooking over propane. fri supper, maybe. All meals sat. breakfast sun. Shoot fri. or sat. If at all possible.
-
At the range now. Got the portajohn all to myself 🙄
-
Life is good…
-
Great, refugees from Texas have shown up.
-
no pictures, it didn't happen ;D
-
Nah, you don't want to see pictures of these guys.
:P
-
Hope someone takes some video. I'd like to see how you guys do this. Have a great time!

-
So you still haven't got all the mud out of your toes and ears yet, eh? And then there's that pesky face plant Major Mudd. Damn the luck!
-
Mostly, certainly was a sea of mud, I think I had about an acre of the range in my boots :o
it was still great memory :D
-
Mud?? You had mud up there? I'm just a couple hundred miles away (As a crow flies), and
and haven't had mud here since April or May. Quite the drouth going on here.
-
Prolly not....
JB is referring to a Berger Sharpshooter SW Regional some years ago, in a MONSOON.
Actually, a hurricane which cut across Old Mexico and Texas w/ 26" in 24 hours.
The caliche' soil turned to mud 6" deep with 6" of flowing water on top.
"Boot sucking " mud !
-
The year was 2015. Go to www.BergerSharpshooters.com and on the left side of the Home page click on 'Joe Berger Memorial Match'. From there select the 2015 Match. When that pops up scroll to the bottom and click on the video that Pancho Peacemaker shot that morning before the trout started jumping on Main Street.
-
Had a blast once again. Hope someone got some pictures. Great way to spend a weekend! ;D
-
I got one of the primitive camp, but then focused on making sure nothing was blowing away. I thought I saw Good Troy taking pictures, maybe even a video?
-
This was my first time to attend. I plan to add this event to my calendar every year!!
I had a great time. Thanks to Trap and Michelle for hosting such an awesome event!
Here's a link to the pictures and a couple of videos I took with the cell phone. There is a video of the shoot off for first place!
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1kV71XGCXKJSinLBS2RquwIWDUnNOaiLp?usp=sharing
Let me know if you have issues with the link.
-
Looks like fun! I've got to try making that one next year.
-
Some great pictures there, can really zoom in without losing clarity. Cannot play the last video though.
-
???
I was able to play both of them
-
Yep, fixed it. ;D
-
at first, I couldn't, but this morning I could, thanks
-
It looks like it was fun!
Ira Scott and I had a shoot off one year in the long-range side match at the Ruckus at Racoon Forks and it was a lot of fun

Well, I suppose it was just my point of view. But I did enjoy it! ;)
