Title: light bullets and 45/70 loads?
Post by: winchets on August 17, 2016, 09:02:48 AM
we shoot bigbores 2 times a year in our club and I shoot a marlin or a trapdoor and was wondering if anyone uses anything lighter than the 405 bullets. I m looking to buy a mold and would like recommendations if there is a good bullet  or should I just continue with the 405 and use trapdoor loads

Distance?
Rounds?
Time?
Position(s)?

Like "#5 is alive said". "Need more data!"

In quest for fast accurate 45-70 loads, I experienced good accuracy with 27gr-29gr IMR4198, less than 3" @ 100yd.

This isn't a personal experience.  It's an "I know a guy, who knows a guy, who does this."  Nah.  Not really.  It's about my shooting partner.  He drug me kicking and screaming into his Plainsman side matches.  Where was I going, ...... Oh yea,  Light Bullets in a 45-70

My partner has Balls.  Really big .. Balls.  Yep.  Shoots Round Balls out of his 45-70.  For Plainsman, down-loaded with about a half case of filler.  Shoots like a laser.  Recoil is didley squat.  Really fun.  Big 'ol 45-70 round, load it in a Handi rifle ..... BOOMBA ...... no recoil.  FUN!!

PS:  I could sure get interested in that "Collar Button" bullet as a real neat light pistol bullet for BP.  Carry lotta lube.  Or .. none with APP.
