Change of Position = Change of POI
« on: May 29, 2019, 03:14:45 PM »
My back was feeling the effects of a hard day delivering three utility trailer loads of firewood to our community hall yesterday, so shooting prone from x-stix was out of the question. The getting up and down would have been less than fun.

So today I shot sitting with x-stix. Much to my surprise I had to lower my rear sight from the prone sighting position. Once dialed in, my Shiloh #1 Sporter in 45-70 shot like the Trooper it is at 200m.

Should I have expected the difference? I rarely shoot sitting with x-stix so it came as a surprise.

The other surprise was the benefit of using grease cookies under hot, dry conditions. Last time I shot a week ago, I used loads that lacked the grease cookie and my rifles fouled up pretty bad after just 5 rds.

Quite common.  Back in my high power days one would sometimes shoot the entire match at 100 yards at targets with same size black but different scoring rings quite common to have different zero for offhand sitting or prone.

Your results are expectable, try off hand and you’ll get another impact. Nature of shooting in general.
