Want to Trade 1851 for 1861
« on: January 14, 2023, 10:52:46 PM »
Gentlemen, I have an extra Uberti 1851 I'd like to trade for an 1861.  I've already adjusted the arbor and converted it to a coil hand spring.  Let me know if you have one you can live without!

May I suggest, order a 61-barrel assembly and keep your handy work?   :)

In my case, the 61 barrel is a 3" Avenging Angel with a Kirst conversion, and 51 barrel is .357 lined.

That was my first idea.  Ordered a new barrel.  Doesn't come close to fitting either of my '51's.  Yes, they're all Uberti.  Are Piettas more interchangeable?

The one above was, The Donar gun was an EMF Heritage 61 London model.
I'd have to look up the date code; I'm thinking early 2000's (edit [CC] 2008)
The new 51 barrel was of unknown vintage, no DC was on it.  :-\

The rather stupid part is ... I'm guessing I have north of dumb money invested.

The guns initial purchase, the Kirst Cylinder purchase, acquiring the 51 barrel & have it lined.
Considering, all Pietta, BP Only, and Made in Italy stampings were shaved, both barrels and Kirst were then all nitrate hot bath blued.

But I have a convertible conversion, rather unique, dare I say one of a kind.  :-\

as an aside, I have swapped Uberti OT & BP barrels as well with no issue. :-\

as you implied not cross kit bashed between the two manufactures though.

I have two Pietta 1851s. One made in 2010 and one made in 2021. I tried to swap the barrels but they are absolutely not interchangeable. You need to find a barrel that is close to the same year manufacture. Even in the same year, if they changed tooling mid-year you may still be out of luck.

This is interesting.  I have not previously heard of changes that would cause the barrels to not fit.  Niederlander, how old is that '51?

One is 2006, and I can't find a date code on the other.  May have to disassemble it to find that one.
