New grips for my 1911
« on: August 14, 2018, 11:10:06 PM »
My nickle Cimarron 1911 was already pretty blingy with its burl wood grips, but I decided to give it another look to go with its story, which goes as follows.  This gun belonged to an Army Colonel.  I was a civilian hired to provide dinner music for the Colonel and his entourage and was in his car when we were ambushed by banditos.  The Colonel was wounded, and I used his 1911 to save the day.  He later presented it to me as a token of gratitude.

I have not had any problem holding onto either set of smooth grips, shooting one-handed.

I bought a Rock Island 1911 with smooth genuine crapwood grips.  Got two pair of Double Diamond walnut grips from Sarco.  The two had different colors of wood on the same side so I matched or the dark ones for every day use and kept the lighter (think rd oak color) for dressing up.  Sure glad they weren't different colors on the wrong side.

Well, I'm pretty pleased for $40 including shipping.  :)

Found a guy on ebay that makes all kinds of wild looking grips, plus a few more "traditional" ones like this.  TruIvory by Bar-S grips used to be the best fake ivory, but they were quite pricey and are extinct.  These do remind me of TruIvory but aren't quite as natural looking, as the grain is a little too "random", but still not bad.

He makes grips of this material for Rugers also, unfortunately not for Colts.

Unknown set of "ivory" polymer grips that I set a Mexican 2 Peso into for this one.
Ivories look good on anything!
