If USFA was to come out with an accurate reproduction of the Remington O/U Derringer, would you buy one?

Yes, and the same goes for a good copy of the Sharps #1A pepperbox. Miroku (?) made one for awhile, but I can't find them any more, even used.

Absolutely! See my other post, "USFA Wish List." As long as it looks like the Remington - Like what Great Western Arms Co. did back in the 50's - and does not incorporate that oversized hinge like American Derringer does.

Rawhide Rio is right (again). Great Western Arms managed to do it back in the 50's. The hinge on their .38 derringer was only slightly larger than the original Remington's - and then only along the "backstrap" portion of the hinge.

As CNC machinist of 29 years, I am confident that a reproduction Remington O/U derringer would be a piece of cake. If I had open access to a Haas Machining Center, I would love to design, engineer, and fabricate the whole project. But I am stuck making jet engine parts, and have no access.

I thought I'd bring this back to the top. It still merits discussion, because to date we still do not have a good Remington '66 reproduction. I think a USFA made derringer would fit the bill!

Yep, I'm still interested and I'm sticking by my earlier post from last September;

"As long as it looks like the Remington - Like what Great Western Arms Co. did back in the 50's - and does not incorporate that over sized hinge like American Derringer does."

Since last posting on this subject I have acquired a Remington .41 rim-fire derringer, manufactured about 1890. Neat little gun! Much more elegant looking than the modern reproductions.

Since last posting on this subject I have acquired a Remington .41 rim-fire derringer, manufactured about 1890. Neat little gun! Much more elegant looking than the modern reproductions.

Agreed! I also agree how the Rem derringer is more elegant than the modern stuff. I had a chance to pick up a re-nickled circa 1890 for $400 ish last year and passed it up. I am still kicking myself for that one.

Well, Rawhide, I paid a bit more than that! Got one with 98% of it's original nickel finish and near perfect hard rubber grips. Perfect working condition, tight hinge with no cracks and good bores.
I like to think that in it's previous life it led a peaceful existence, comfortably nestled in some fair maiden's garter.

Naw, keep it in a small, reasonable caliber.

If you start getting big calibers, before you know it you have some big, distorted, ugly, oversized Frankengun thing like the ones they're making now.

The original Remington was almost tiny, and certainly elegant. Find a small centerfire .41 or go with .38 S&W or .380.

I agree. Nothing larger than a 45-70. Actually, I agree on the .38 Spl or possibly that .41 cal that came out a handful of years ago. I'd probably have to get one.

I had a .38 special that was very true to the original contours and was a dream of a gun, but it was 30-40% bigger than the Remington.

The originals were pop-guns. If you get them too powerful, you're gonna have to make them too big.

Yeah, I didn't think about that. Every now and then someone waves one of those Bond Arms cannons around. I agree that they'd need to be original in size. Otherwise I sure wouldn't want one. Heck, .38 Long Colt would be enough.

Yup 38 LC, 32 S&W, 32 Mag, ETC Just enough to punch a hole in a cardboard target at 10 feet or ring a steel target.

Lots of guns made only for SASS, why not this one?

Just keep it original size.
