STORM / Re: Too many pistols
« Last post by Professor Marvel on March 25, 2024, 03:12:58 AM »
I have come to a realization that at 72, I don't need five sets of CAS pistols.  My plan is to keep my pair of 1860 Anderson .44 Colt Conversions (Truth and Justice) and the new pair of the Cimarron No.3 1st Model Americans in .44 Russian.  I just sold my pair of Bisley Vaqueros, and listed my pair of .45 1860 Kirst Piettas, and pair of .38 Kirst Piettas on SASSnet.com classifieds.  Just a heads up....

My Good TL

Five sets?
Thats … only 10 pistols?

Uhhhhhh.

A big thank you to those that put on the convention. I am sure there was plenty of behind the scenes work that was done that we don't see. We see the results though, in a well run convention. Thanks to everyone who put this on.

The 2024 convention is in the books.  BTB did a great job setting it up.  The hotel staff was wonderful, the hotel itself had some mechanical issues.  Great convention overall.

Went to the club that runs our state SASS championship today for their "Pot luck, swap and sell Cabin fever" shoot, Didn't have any shooting because the day before they got 20 inches of the evil white stuff. This event usually brings in around 55-60 people, I think we may have had 25 and no one was buying much. I sold 1 brass bag for a dollar. But the food was great and I got to hang with friends that I haven't seen since last CAS season.

.44 Colt and Russian do seem to be Cimarrons bailiwick.   I just got my second No.3 1st Model American headed my way.  The American's in .44 are the Holy Grail of Top Breaks, like the .44 colt Type 1 Richards is th holy Grail of Open Tops.  Now I have both!

The Winchester Model 1892 / Re: Slicking up a Miroku 92?

Save your money and just practice magazine changes.  :)  Lots more stage time improvement that way, I'd think.   Easy advice from a guy who needs badly to practice magazine changes.  :D

I just heard from Steve at Steve's Gunz.  The issue with the rifle is the "overstrong" mainspring, which is unfortunately necessary to drive the rebounding firing pin and hammer.  To lighten up the lever it is necessary to replace the entire set of fire control components. When I was shooting against .45 Colts and .44-40s, it didn't matter much to me.  Against slick .38s, I think I need a different rifle.

Frontier Iron / Re: Black powder subs with Schofields

I once tried Triple 7 in Schofields.  I lubed the cylinder arbor with SPG, used grease cookie (even though I was using triple 7), and got one and a half stages before it seized.   I then tried spraying the gun liberally with WD40 after each stage, and was able to just finish the match.  That was my last attempt at BPish loads in a Schofield.
