.44 Colt and Russian do seem to be Cimarrons bailiwick.   I just got my second No.3 1st Model American headed my way.  The American's in .44 are the Holy Grail of Top Breaks, like the .44 colt Type 1 Richards is th holy Grail of Open Tops.  Now I have both!

The Winchester Model 1892 / Re: Slicking up a Miroku 92?

Save your money and just practice magazine changes.  :)  Lots more stage time improvement that way, I'd think.   Easy advice from a guy who needs badly to practice magazine changes.  :D

I just heard from Steve at Steve's Gunz.  The issue with the rifle is the "overstrong" mainspring, which is unfortunately necessary to drive the rebounding firing pin and hammer.  To lighten up the lever it is necessary to replace the entire set of fire control components. When I was shooting against .45 Colts and .44-40s, it didn't matter much to me.  Against slick .38s, I think I need a different rifle.

I once tried Triple 7 in Schofields.  I lubed the cylinder arbor with SPG, used grease cookie (even though I was using triple 7), and got one and a half stages before it seized.   I then tried spraying the gun liberally with WD40 after each stage, and was able to just finish the match.  That was my last attempt at BPish loads in a Schofield.

STORM / Too many pistols
« Last post by Tuolumne Lawman on March 24, 2024, 11:13:08 AM »
I have come to a realization that at 72, I don't need five sets of CAS pistols.  My plan is to keep my pair of 1860 Anderson .44 Colt Conversions (Truth and Justice) and the new pair of the Cimarron No.3 1st Model Americans in .44 Russian.  I just sold my pair of Bisley Vaqueros, and listed my pair of .45 1860 Kirst Piettas, and pair of .38 Kirst Piettas on SASSnet.com classifieds.  Just a heads up....

I'm still alive, too. Still giving the post office 60 or so hours a week. But not for long. 68 days.

Gunsmithing / Re: Making stag grips
« Last post by wildman1 on March 24, 2024, 07:04:04 AM »
I made a set of elk grips for a set of rugers I have. They came out great. I used Birchwood  filler and sealer then finished them with Birchwood Tru oil That I got from Brownells. I coated the inside of the grips with a good slow dry epoxy and used a hair drier set on low to get it to soak into the grain. The epoxy I used is about the same color as the grips and takes about two weeks to really set completely.
