Which ones do you have?
« on: June 12, 2012, 09:23:12 AM »
I bought a pair of AWA Longhorns in .45 Colt and with 5 1/2" barrels almost 20 years ago.

Had one minor issue with an out of round cylinder pin causing some binding with BP (corrected in under 5 minutes by Owen Money at a match) and I still detest the two position "safety" cylinder pins, but this isn't a major issue and otherwise they are fine guns.

Out of the box they were as smooth and reliable as any single actions I ever owned (Colts, a few Jaegers, and a Herters) or handled. The grips were, and still are, ugly, but I didn't buy them for their looks.

They are very close to my second generation Colts in feel and function and were my match guns when I was still shooting regularly.

I'm sorry the original AWA went under and haven't tried the new breed from the new AWA.

Well here goes:

I have 2 EMF Dakotas (the early 1977 Jagers) will never get rid of them
3 Taylors
7 GW2's
1 Colt (oopps I already fergot what this forum was about...!!!)

What are my favorites? Well, I shoot my engraved Taylors most, then followed by a matching Colt/GW2, and my Sunday BBQ guns are a pair of custom nickel plated GW2 with real elephant ivory grips.

btw...I have seen 4Trods AWAS, they are as nice as he says...

I have 3 clones all in 45 Colt. The oldest is an ASM with 4.75" barrel, Uberti 5.5" and a 7.5" Cimarron/Uberti. The best shooters are the ASM and the 7.5". I couldn't hit the inside of a barn with the 5.5" for some reason if I was standing in it.

I have 3 Cimarron SAA repro's.  Never had a problem with any of them.  One is a 45LC 7 1/2" Pre-War Model P in antique finish that I shoot with a 1901-vintage Colt that looks just like it.  Next is a 44-40 4 3/4" Old Model (BP frame).  And also a 44 Spcl 3 1/2" Thunderer.  I don't shoot these last two too often in CAS because neither of them has a "match" and I have several other matched sets (44 Spcl Colts and 2 sets of conversions) and not enough time to shoot them!  The guns I shoot the most are my engraved '51 conversions, but those belong on the STORM forum  :)

Forty Rod, it is really easy to grind off 1/8" from the rear of the cylinder pins to eliminate the "safety".  They look better that way as well, IMO, since they no longer stick out the front of the frame as far.

I have half dozen Great Westerns, 3 Jagers, an Uberti, and a Ruger.  I'm real into my Dakotas right now.  Very underrated guns.

Generally speaking, the more advanced I became with six-shooters, the more I realized what great stuff the Italians have made.

Three Ubert'is, and two USFA's in SAA. Three 4 3/4 and two 7 1/2 inch.  I love the Uberti's,,,and the Smoke Wagon is an  excellent revolver. My standard model P in 7 3/4 is my fav shooting revolver in the SAA line. The open tops are a tad more accurate though.

Got 4 Vaqueros too.  A pair of 7.5 inchers, (see pic over there <---), SS finish.  A BirdsHead, 3.75 inch, SS finish and a Bisley Vaq with 5.5 inch tube in blue/cc finish.  All are old, large model Vaqueros and all are caliber 45 Colt, but I'll leave all future discussion of those over at the RATS wire.

Well for the most part from the 1970 to today, I have staid with C&B revolvers.  March of this year I got into Cowboy Fast Draw and broke down and bought one of those new fangled cartridge guns.

Uberti Hombre in .45 colt.  It was smooth right out of the box and has given me no problems to date.  At the time of purchase I also ordered a competition spring kit but have not had a need to install it.  I have been very impressed with the Hombre, so will soon be in the market for another in .45 as a back up.

I have at present an EMF Jaeger w/7.5 inch barrel in .45 Colt
An EMF GW2 in .45 Colt W/7.5 inch barrel.  Both are fitted with M1860 Grip Frames and Tru-Ivory stocks.

A Uberti Artillery Model in .45 Colt sporting poly ivory stocks.

A Cimerron New Thunderer in .45 Colt w/4.75 inch barrel and checkered walmut stocks.
Listen!  Do you hear that?  The roar of Cannons and the screams of the dying.  Ahh!  Music to my ears.

I have a EMF Dakota Jager 7 1/2" 45 Colt that I sold to a shootin pard back in the late 70's-early 80's when I had an FFL. He sold it back to me in the early/mid 90's and I've been well pleased with it. I replaced the main spring with a Wolff one as the orginal had a hard pull to it, slicked up the inards, and it shoots and cycles well and smooth. Went shooting Sat (6/23), was gonna take it, but took other pieces instead, just typing this is making my finger trigger twitch, think I'll unleash it this afternoon. Good to see this Colt Clone topic on CAS!

Hello, folks, I started a few days ago on the 1876 forum. My wife bought me a uberti in 45-60, a beautiful rifle. So , I was bitten, and today a uberti El Patron followed me home, 5.5 inch barrel, in 45 colt. My only complaint, dont really like the grips.

Welcome to the brethern, hammer1 !

The El Patron uses the larger "Army" grip frame made popular on the 1860 Colt.
Have you tried a regular frameed SAA in the hand?

Hoof Hearted, its not the grip frame, its the checkered wood grips. I want the ivory looking grips, or the black horn looking ones on the desperado. Thanks for the welcome too , sir, much appreciated. I was in to ultra long range rifles for a long time, but these guns are really pulling me in, I already want , a 1866, a 73 sporting, and of course a sharps replica, im hooked.

Here is one of my favorite cartridge revolvers.

A Jaeger, 45 long Colt, imported by Navy Arms.  I see now, the ACP cylinder is pictured, it came as a 45 long Colt and I fitted the ACP cylinder.

This is another favorite, an ASM Richards.

When I got it, the internals were so soft, I replaced everything.  Then the hammer went south and I needed to replace it.  Couldn't find one so used one from an 1860 instead, figured that was the way it was done when the Richards was a new firearm.  It has worked well for me for nearly a decade.

Also have or had many C&B revolvers, mostly Uberti, but some of the other brands have come and gone.
Knowledge is to be shared not hoarded.
