Yeesh, took all day at the dealer to get a 1/2 hour job done. We've owned 6 Hyundais in a row, but this dealer down here has me doubting if we get another one next year. We were SPOILED by a great dealer up North. Hope this got the mischief out of the way for this month!

Evening y'all.
I was called into verk early because of issues.  ::)

Looking forward to 3 days off.

Need to replace the A/C belt on the Avalanche. Of course, the main serpentine belt has to be taken off to put the A/C on.  ::)

Morning folks, 84 here right now, heading for 91. We were gonna have some family over tonight, but Lady C isn't feeling well, so I cancelled it. If she pushes hard, she gets sick anymore, so I am [over?] protective.Supposed to have a new CAS hat delivered today according to the USPS, a Bailey Derby. Hope I like it and I am expecting an eye roll from the Missus!

Afternoon all.

Shaping up to be a pleasant day on the Dark Continent. And by nice I mean that it’s 95 at midnight, and we’re in the middle of a dust storm. This weather is starting to make me real sympathetic to the Oakies of yesteryear.  ::)

Went to the gym for the first time with our free Silver Sneakers pass, Rita walked in the pool, I went and did 30 minutes with a thing called a NuStep, made 1800 and a few steps with it set on 7.   Used one at Tabatha and it was what was recommended to start with.   O2 was 96 when done and heartrate was 85, stopped at 20 minutes for about 3 minutes and went back to it.  Didn't take BP thing because it is never a problem.

Going to get a swim suit and next time meet her in the pool and walk some, she quit early because she saw me waiting.  Wish those 1890 type suits weren't so expensive, will just get a cheap T Shirt to wear because I will admit I look a bit nasty because of my scarring problems.  May scare some of the kids bad.  Almost looks like a 1/2 rope. ::)

In other news, you might say my ship well BOAT came in  :)

This is the WW2 Liberty ship lifeboat that was donated to the museum.
We had to move a lot around just to get it in the building, now it's a matter of restoring the moved exhibits.

This thing is UBER cool, has the oars and even a ration box (empty however)

Latest update

Jonathan went into AFIB again and stopped breathing,The pacemaker isn't working. The Drs. have put in a central line and are feeding him through a tube.He is in extensive pain.
From his Grandmother today...
They gave Jonathan a blood transfusion last night. He has a leak in his heart. Hoping meds and transfusions will bring his hemoglobin and potassium up or else they will have to open him up again. They gave John a blood transfusion last night. He has a leak in his heart. Hoping meds and transfusions will bring his hemoglobin and potassium up or else they will have to open him up again.
This won't solve the big problem though. It would just bring him to his previous condition.  I'm not being pessimistic,  it is reality.

Please keep Jonathan in your thoughts and prayers, He is a young man with his whole life ahead of him. Thank you

We've reach and past the mid-point of 2022, just 176 shopping days to Xmas.
Ads for Pumpkin Spice everything may appear shortly ::)

Currently 76° heading to 91° Scattered thunderstorms at 25% chance of precipitation.

Surrounding locals did fireworks, the standard rattle of firecrackers, A few redneck 9MM's
Some guy about a 1/2 mile to the SE of my place, must have access to professional displays.
He puts on quite a nice aerial show both on the 4th & New Years.
And then, I can only assume there is a replica cannon down by the lake East of me, as this wag is the big, he-bull of "BOOM"

Happy Fourth, let freedom continue to ring!

Was going through papers, if you want to see what was wrong.

They told about me peeing on the floor and the one time the bed.

Worked at home today was a bit sore from the gym.  My desk was kind of a mess when I left and got a bunch done with it today.  Lexie can stay as long as she wants but a little bit of me hopes she moves out next year when she's done with HS, says she's going tom wait and decide later if she wants to go to college.  When she does I get that room back for an office, Rita will use it too some, but it will be mostly me and we won't have to have the TV and my music fight, actually works OK, she has hers loud enough to drowned me out and the same with her, we get reprimanded for it once in a while but she's right, it's when she can't sleep and has school in the morning.

Some more to do but moving on tomorrow and will come back and fine tune later. ::)

Greetings all.

117 here in Africa today. We got a little rain around 10pm last night, but not enough to make anything muddy. Just enough to make my walk to breakfast a little more humid.

Highlights of the day include 4 hours inventorying hazmat stuff and making a spreadsheet (they call the program Excell, but I did not excel at it). I also splinted a broken finger with a pencil and duct tape. Apparently the guy did it last night playing basketball, and didn’t want to go to the base hospital. I guess to each his own.

I'm headed up the road, to Mount Dora (about an hour drive) for the Florida Military Collectors’ Show.
We don't & won't sell anything, strictly an exhibiting not for profit museum.
Any donation to us of militaria is for "in house display" only.
I'll setting up and manning the Museum's traveling display to advertise the existence of the museum.

I'll will however peruse the vendors, in case there is something for my personal collection.
But I expect the prices to be high, and more than likely even stratospheric and out of my range.

Supposed to be 92° and 95% humidity  ::)  phew !

More to the tune of 98° air temp, they were closer on humidity @ 96%  heat index in the sun was 108°
I'm hard boiled ...

Lots of cool stuff, Prices not so cool. however, as the crowd thinned, and the heat rose. there were some deals to be made. I was pan fried and saved my haggling skills, not to mention my cash stash....

Milsurp guns galore, but prices were stratospheric. I saw a 1910 Mills belt that was very nice would have loved to have got it for my coming 1916-17 Punitive Era Border Exhibit but @ $300  :o   NOT !

A bit more to report about the Military show yesterday....

There was a goodly number of WW2 Reenactors, Germans by in large, several Africa Corp, a pair of Mountain Troopers, a German Medic, a number of Wehrmacht (a couple were armed with MP40)
but also, a Russian, couple of Brits and several American infantrymen, and 8th Army Air Corp Sargent.
I even saw US Marines and group of Japanese soldiers.
All were quite detailed & impressive.  I have photos if you'd like.

Vietnam's war was represented with couple of GI's with trench guns, another with an AR a LAW tube.
and all sported field gear.

I was told they belong to a group - WW2ARMOR.ORG

Vehicles were also present, a pair 41 Willy's, a Duce and half, a British Armored car complete with a BREN gun in the turret, a pair of German BMW motorcycles, and for post WW2 a Vietnam era Mutt, and several Humv's

I like the old North Afrika Corps guy.   He should have had sunscreen. ;D  They say a lot of those guys ended up looking very old due to the sun.

Forgot to tell you I did 57 minutes on my machine yesterday, last 17 minutes I went to 8.   Was going to make the whole hour but went from mild perspiration to where my shirt started getting wet spots so I quit because that is the breaking point for fat old men with heart problems.  Will start at 8 in a day or  so and quit when I need to, hope to get in the pool after with Rita but have a rash thing on my left arm, not sure what it is but doubt it needs in the pool or the pool needs it just in case it is flesh eating bacteria or something like that, it looks better, been iodining it and then when dry cortisone over it.  Need to search out another bottle or 3, getting hard to get unless I want a pint or more at Tractor Supply. ::)

I don't know if I showed you guys what one of my projects is, anyone on FB can read and share stuff.  Despite all the BS there it has some uses and this works good because I don't have to copy and paste and find pictures when someone needs help.

It's a public FB group so anyone can read and share, how ever I am the only one allowed to post in it so lets say I was doing how to make doughnuts some doughnut hole can post they bought doughnuts on the way to work or other equally stupid things.

New stuff goes to the top then once a moth or so I bump things around and get them in order again.  If the post has only one picture it's like a book mark and relates to the next posts till you find another single.

I will try to turn this into my first book by next spring, planning on self publishing because paying some would not be an advantage because till you get well known you pay to publish and I can distribute it myself, have Riley lick stamps.  This will be a smaller book for the average person wanting to learn dutch oven cooking and since I used to sell books on dutch oven cooking I must say I'm real positive it will be the best on the market. Should be some over 100 pages, depending on how many pictures I use.  Will also do an electronic publish also, then the amount of pictures is not that big of a deal.

A couple people have told me it's dumb to post this stuff on the net because someone will steal it, hell if they wanted to "i'd give it to them because the idea is not to let my knowledge die when I do, all I'd ask would be credit for it. ::)  Actually will try to get the copyright on it by the new year.  Another place to get ripped off anyone can copyright for $40, the standard rate is $200-500 for the rip,off artists, a good scam.

Sample of what it is, a fun one using science, science can make you a better cook.  If you are on FB it's a good look over, and is an example of what FB can be if used right, a free platform that helps me reach a fairly large audience, I'm having hundreds of people reading this material and are glad to be helped,I need to look into doing videos, best would be someone local that wants to  gain fame and glory by putting both names on it. ::)

...

Why you can’t make bread like Grandma’s

How many times have you heard someone say that they just can’t make bread like their grandma, many times even mentioning they have the recipe grandma wrote down for them? Most times if the person is any kind of a cook, the bread they make is fine; it just doesn’t have quite the taste of Grandma’s.

When ever anyone mentions this, something I discovered many years ago comes to mind, my brother loves homemade bread, but he had told me one time that it was good, very good, but just didn’t taste like Grandma’s bread did and he was right. He wanted to know if I had Grandma’s recipe, but she never used one that I ever saw, not for just plain old white bread, she just mixed it up, they way I do it, a couple tablespoon’s of lard, maybe a teaspoon or so of sugar, a dash of salt and work in enough flour for a stiff dough.

Well as I started traveling around with my cook camp, I noticed that my bread tasted different at different places, not a lot, but it was different, none of which was exactly like Grandma’s. I realized the places I went to had well water, and depending on where it was, it tasted different. I also remember a class I had on water treatment years before I remembered something from the class, a lot of national brands of many items uses water treatment to make them taste the same where ever they are made.

I also remembered Grandma’s bread was never quite the same after she moved to town. What I did the next time we were hunting at the farm was to use the water out of the well. The well has very old pipes and a slight nitrate level, not serious, but we just haul our drinking water from Lincoln and refill at the neighbors who has a much better well. At supper time, my brother went over to the dutch oven full of bread, got himself a couple large pieces, covered it with butter and took a bite. The look on his face was priceless, “you did find Grandma’s recipe!”
I had to tell him again, there was no written down recipe I’d ever seen. “You had better remember what you did different, this is Grandma’s bread.” I explained what I had done and now when I’m at the farm I use the water from the well.

Stuff often does then, that's why if  I have research to do I often have a late night cup and write then,  Sometimes I swear I have more open windows than a trailer house on a hot afternoon, not all on the net but I will have FB minimalized because spammers operate a lot that time and most spammers don't even last a 1/2 hour if they make it through.  I'm usually up till at least one, Chet in NC starts coffee about 4 and even at that one of us old retired guys are still up. ;D

I'm up, went to bed about Midnite and now I'm wide awake, working on an article for The Home Front Herald, got writers block yesterday, it's due Aug 1 so I have time plenty.  Went to bed thinking about it and woke up with some ideas, not that unusual or a least for me.

I'll put a pot on if someone wants one, bought a gallon of Mt Olive whole dill pickles at Costco and low and behold a gallon glass jar, scarce in this era and free because the kid and I ate the pickles and it was only $4.99.  Anyway washed it up, got rid if the pickle smell and made my first batch of sun tea in about 35 years.  I refuse to pay what they want for a sun tea jar at the store.  Not much different between it and brewed tea, in the era it was popular I think only a few made brewed tea and I never seen the big difference, So I'll play with it, dropped a handful of dried oranges in it like I do my brewed tea and it is good.

Food Bank gives up bags of the juice type oranges, the plain old smaller ones with seeds, I dry and vacuum seal them along with any bought ones that age a bit.  Wife will buy some then decide they are sour or she has canger sores from her fake teeth and I dry them.

Anything around here don't get et in a day or so gets dried or vacuum sealed an froze, quite handy and saves money.

Anyways, things are hot round here 95 right now, feels like 103 and no break in sight except they say Sunday should ONLY be 92!

Interesting DeaconKC. This past Winter I started a small-ish switching layout in HO Standard and HOn3 to finally experiment with DCC. Up to now it's been old school analog with block controls and plain power packs.

Had to clean my Lathe, on the last project the carriage movement was stiff do to metal chips and Gack!
Also, I ordered an upgrade 3 jaw chuck which should be here in 2 days or so.

I other news, I revamped the ACW exhibit at the museum for fresh look (re-dressed and re-presented items in glass case displays) move same around in the area, and hung Mort Kunstler & Dale Gallon framed prints.

I'll begin construction on the WW1 trench exhibit next week, when construction materials arrive.
Once that is complete all exhibits (eras, areas and interpretive(s)) will have a fresh new revised look.

From Jonathans Grandmother

My daughter's words not mine.
Johny update: good morning everyone. As you know johny had internal bleeding issues a couple days back. Because of this his liver and kidneys had to shift over to make room for all the blood in his tummy. So his bilirubin levels are now high because the liver is in overdrive. He has a yellow tint to him. The liver docs has started him on liver meds and Monday he has a CT scan on the liver to make sure these meds are working. So now the valve surgery on his heart is on hold until his body can heal from the bleeding and the shifting of all his tummy parts. It will take some time for his his body to naturally get rid of all this blood and his liver and kidneys to move back into thier natural spots. He remain on his heart failure meds until this happens and them we can move forward to fix his heart. The pace making is holding his rhythm well and the heart failure meds are working to keep him going very well at this point.. We are praying that the valve surgery will fix the leak and give him some more time before he needs a new heart. Next week will be spent recovering from that bleed and getting him up to walk and making sure we keep him strong walking wise. This weekend is for rest. It went from having a pacemaker installed to a lot of craziness this last month but I believe in my heart that in the end johny will come out stronger then ever...I love you all. Keep the prayers flowing. This kiddo is strong. The prayers mean so much to him and my family.i love you all and have a blessed day.

The cat’s and I have made it halfway through our six weeks of soloing.  We’re hot, dry, and still out of the pound.  The wife’s back in Milwaukee hot, wet, and no word as of yet of any pound time (but then all the Bad Critter Infuence is still here with me).  It’s been sunny and in the 90’s for the last 3 weeks and is supposed to stay that way for the next 3.

So far no fires nearby and only a couple of days of Red Alert conditions in the area.  Hoping it stays that way through the rest of the fire season.

No plans, beyond cashing a check at the bank, and maybe grab something light for lunch.

I am now officially bored, have done good for almost 3 years and I am tired and just want to go out in the yard and play or something I don't know what,  I don't want to rea, write, never liked arithmetic but will do it if need be.  My workshop is still a mess from when the kids got the house ready for us.  I don't want to cook, not hungry, too hot to sit on the porch with the dog, wife is off running errands, I passed on the gym this morning and me and Riley just got our butts out of bed.  Got growled at last night because a pan wasn't clean, got mad and told them both I was a screw up and if they could do it better then do it.  It pissed me off because about the only time dishes are done by someone else I'm in the hospital.  Was told they have trouble reaching and if I put them away,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)   Yes I did, nobody else did.

Guess ranting made me feel better, ain't don't a good rant in a while, got coffee on, will do the dishes, I want a loaf of homemade wheat bread, guess I'll have to do that also. ::)  Not sure what supper will be, kid is going to a friends, they seem to be learning to cook over there, French cooking.   They have been making that drunken beef stew stuff, Rita bought them a small botte of rotten grape juice for it, they asked.  She did on the account they promised to cook it first.   Third time making it so if they sampled it wasn't much.  Told them to put mashed taters on top and have a Chateau pie but my joke was not considered funny, fusion cooking, English and French.  Years ago I tried cooking with wine, seems a good way to ruin meat beer is better if you must, but long ago decided it was a way for lousy cooks to hide bad cooking.

Go have my coffee, feeling better, done with the pain meds a couple of days ago, am thinking maybe I can drive again, not feeling half drunk.  Sucks, been home 4 weeks Friday and have had to be hauled around, not sure, but it was late April or early May the last time I did.  Need to get the plates and get the beast up and going, it starts when I charge the battery, don't try it with out.  Got a almost full tank needs run out, need a cool day and the backroads, radio don't work anymore so have to take the phone and Pandora, should have 3-3 1/2 hours cruise time on cheap gas, it's got Trump gas. maybe should bottle it and sell it. ;D

Got a $50 Gift card for a survey (was given a choice, either Amazon, Walmart or PayPal)
Took the Walmart and bought a full tank on them (Wally world gas) course this was in April when prices were still some under $4, now it be $ 81  ::)

I'm up, iced tea and pills, brought the other jug off the porch, coffee in a bit or later, not sure what's up, may go back to bed, Rita's going to therapy.   Got up and took a plastic ball away from a cat at 3 am, she was bouncing it off the bedroom door.  She does that and the dog shoves it back.  Took it out and gave it too her when I got up, she just wants to sleep, woke her up 3-4 times and now she's hiding and likely sleeping. ::)

Ate supper early with wife and her friend at some wings place, I had the fish, was tired and came home, read a bit and crashed out.   Woke up hungry and remembered my loaf of wheat bread from yesterday, was an experiment to improve it, pretty well got what I wanted but should have kneaded it a bit more, too good to be called artisan, but not gonna win a ribbon at the county fair, slightly ragged, was to lazy, should have kneaded it some more.   Got out a can of tuna, tossed in some dill weed cause fish and dill go good, used white pepper because all the fancy cookbooks say to.  Tossed in shredded cheese and mayo and I'm full.   Used a good amount of honey and butter in the bread and it's awesome.  Dog got about half of one because he had to stay home tonight.

Uses that good Bronze Chief flour with 1/4 the high gluten bread flour not AP and about a 1/4 cup honey and about 2/3 stick of butter, going to up the butter to one stick and see if it holds it's crumb good.  Stuff would almost be biscuit texture if I used that much lard and you couldn't slice it, may do that with 1 stick but I'll find out.

I had quit that habit 24 oz "Colombian" (not Decaf) for $0.99, two + years ago when I retired ( F'ing Covid  >:()

But yesterday I was passing by, saw the WAWA's and said to myself...
" you knowwwwwwwww! what might go good right now?

Our Grandson Johnathon Michael Walker Brown went home to receive his healing early this afternoon. We are heartbroken. We appreciate all of you who prayed for my Johnny Cakes. His life itself was a miracle.

It's been over 3-1/2 years since we moved to Florida. We wanted to go back to Wisconsin in 2020 but Covid hit. In 2021 my wife had a very serious operation. On July 5, 2022 we flew to Minnesota to visit my daughter. While in Minnesota we drove to South Dakota to tour the Black Hills. We then drove to Wisconsin to visit my youngest son and old friends. I was able to see my folks home in Milwaukee where I was raised and my old high school.

Funny thing happened last Saturday while driving to my son's home. I was using my daughters Chevy Tahoe which for me was like driving big semi. We started to hear a hissing sound inside the Tahoe. We tried everything but couldn't find out where the sound was coming from. We were just about to go a nearby Chevy dealer when we discovered the sound was coming from my wife's purse. Somehow a ringtone named "Hush - Hush" got on her cellphone. We have absolutely no idea how it got there, We had a hell of a time trying to silence the damn phone. Ain't old age great!

Gasoline was around $4.50 per gallon. Our air travel went very smooth. It was a very memorable trip for us.

90 degrees at 0430. Have a general coming through in a couple of hours for a visit, which is the most excitement we’ve had all week. Well, other than the rain I suppose.

Johnny, Crazy Horse has coke a long way since I was last there in 2015. Did the little visitor center open yet? They were talking about the opening being pushed back by a couple of years last I heard, but I admittedly don’t keep up with it.

I had another thought.

A custom caliber SA revolver chambered in a shortened 38-55 case. A true 38 caliber (or .375 anyway). Why would I want to do this? Because I don’t know of anybody else who has. Probably wouldn’t be as potent as a 38-40, but it would be interesting none the less.

I have been in trouble for years about it, when someone talks about it being cool I mention just because the white man defaced a mountain, it don't mean the Indian should, my Indian friends tell me Native Americans or First Nation are Liberals who live in the city, Indians are their version of rednecks and normally grew up on the rez and smoke signals is their favorite movie. ;D

I was at an acquaintance's house on Saturday to make a holster pattern for a Ruger GP100.  We we talking about guns and they mentioned they had this old gun. Said it was a single-shot and you open it with a level. I am thinking 1885 Winchester. They show me a letter from the Cody Museum. Sure enough - a 1885 Winchester in .32-40. Someone gave it to them. We go to the basement and I got to handle it. I told them I reload for .32-40. So, I will probably get to shoot it.  ;D

Just finished reading a new book about John Moses from the library, very interesting, I am of the opinion his first was the best.  We likely would have lost WWII with out some of his later ones, esp Ma Duece in the air, but he took the single shot to the highest level.   Mine is a small frame Low-Wall, rebarreled with a Springfield Armory 22 target barrel that has had a Hornet Reamer run up it.  Has Pre War style Weaver 1 inch dovetail rings, no big ugly but useful knobs, I'm told very rare, most were 3/4 or 7/8 inch.  That allows me to mount a El Paso made steel Weaver K'12 with adjustable parallax K-12.  The rest is stock, an original barrel would restore it, original plan was a new barrel or rebore to 38-40, a good original barrel and sights would restore it, but why?   Kind of like a barn find 32 coupe with a full Merc in it, a piece of history.  Will shoot slightly over 1 moa but plenty good for an old Hornet.

The original wood was a bit rough, but not now, yes a few decent repairs to it and a month getting the linseed oil right, always wanted to have it reblued and recased but glad I never had the money, it's a true early post war survivor.   Talked to an old retired smith about 25 years ago from a town about 65 miles from Lincoln and Omaha who said if his records had not been lost in a fire he could tell me if it was one he built in about 1947 when he came home from Trinidad.  Said he built 8 of them all identical, no stamp on the barrel with his name because he couldn't afford the stamp.  NRA sold the barrels cheap, the Hornet was at it's peak in that time before the 222, next step was the expensive Swift or a true wildcat, lots of shot out Low Walls some in already hard to get rounds, cheap varmint gun fairly cheap ammo, not hard to find, came out of an estate in Omaha, son knew none of the history.  Would have loved to had the High Wall but too pennies for me.  Beautiful hunk of walnut, not AAA but about A.  High Classic Period cheek piece and wide forend, the kind of stuff that was setting records off the bench at the time.  Nice case and blue, likely a factory metal refinish, they would do it at the time reasonable and the recase was tougher than the original it is said.  the 20 inch barrel wasn't as big as a truck axle, more like Chevy size, the Pre War 70 had the bigger barrel.  Caliber 219 Donaldson Wasp as was the 70, which had been a 30-30 when it rolled out.   Also could have had the die set, the good one with all the dies and neck turner to build them from 30-30 rather than the no longer mad 219 Win.  4X Lyman Super Target went with it, $1500 in 1992, a very fair price, the guy who ended up with it was a late friend across the state and he one day offered to go into town at the state games and get 10 one hundred dollar bills if he could also have the hornet.  Nope, have turned down several, one friend offered to trade again but wouldn't give up his full military Krag with the Pope barrel, but I said that as a joke, we decided to keep what we had.

Met my Dr's replacement yesterday, he's not going to be my primary, Cammie the PA from the old office is my primary, she found my heart problems and left. m But he was open yesterday, nither should be able to retire on me, and his nurse is a male nurse, kind of a hipster guy but cool, we were talking about Hank Sr and stuff, he having just met me opened my chart and said Oh my. ;D

said his mom was a flower child and his dad a biker, told him I was a long hair redneck, new Dr cool also.  Endo on Monday, MRI with contrast on Thursday, he is pretty sure the next problems can be cured.  We expect me running close to normal by spring with a having to be a little cautious.

Felt sorry for the nurse and the other 2 gals in the lab though, they drilled 5 dry holes before they struck, almost got sent to the hospital, but told them not to worry about the 2 try rule, the nurse guy said if he had to9 try again he'd do the forehead if I it was OK, I was game but the other lady stuck on the left arm, dead center when it looked to scarred.

Anything worth doing is worth overdoing. If they can make a revolver that shoots 40S&W (  :-X ), I should be able to make a 38-55 Short. Call it the 38-22.5. ::)

Now my brain is actually going though. Start with a 357 cylinder from a frame size designed for 45Colt for Chanber length and wall thickness, then bore it out to .375. The barrel should be simple enough for a competent gunsmith to bore out to .375, or to sleeve a 38-40 barrel down from .401.

Or I could just buy a Ruger Blackhawk and shoot actual 357magnuns. But where’s the fun in that?

Cheaper and more fun that most think, been shooting Ruger only loads in a 32 mag for about 35 years, the 327 is easier because of more data and factory ammo, have thought about having mine reamed out but as long as they make the 32 mag brass there is no advantage hand loading and a 124 or so 32 cal 0.314 bullet at win the 1400 or so FPS range or 85 gr HP do things you never though possible including better pentation whith the heavy ones that the 357 or 44 and the hps with almost expolde a bunny or prairie dog.  Slim can vouch and he has a fish gun also.

I have a 38spl JFrame, though it’s a little bit much for putting more than a few rounds down range at a time. Also, not exactly a tack driver. I’d like to get a K Frame in 327 mag at some point for working around the homestead. Of course, that requires a homestead, which I currently have in very short supply.

Also, does anyone remember the adapter (I believe it was Remington that produced it) for shooting 32acp through a 32wcf? I remember seeing it in a book, which I do own but it’s not in Africa with me.

When I had my 32acp KelTec, the acp rounds were a little less than 32-20 cowboy loads, but only by a couple dollars. Couldn’t say these days. Frankly I would rather have a 327 to go with a 32spl. A little more variety for harvesting small game for camp (32short would be great for squirrels and jackrabbits) but still have the magnum power for two leggeds like Sasquatch (sasquatches? Sasquii?) or delivering the coup d’grace on the winter meat. Of course, I could do that with a 357, but not have the bullet interchangeability with the rifle.

I digress.

Anyway, it’s hot and muggy in Africa. That’s about it.

I'm big on 32/20, nostalgically it was the first real cal. I shot beyond 22 LR when I was a wee tike of about 8 years old.
I still have that gun as it was my Dads and he gave it to me when I was 21.
I have a Colt SAA in 32/20 , a Marlin Classic, a circa 1891 Winchester 73, and a Uberti Cattleman.
I load bout BP (for the 73) and Trailboss for the others...

Safe to say I'm fond of 32WCF

It has an interesting history, Dad traded with his brother (Uncle Slim) to get it, I was told.
He needed a side arm on his Boat,
In January 1942 he volunteered for the US Coast Guard Auxiliary to Capt. his own 32-foot cabin cruiser 'Lenape' as coast watching & patrol craft with a uniformed & armed Coast Guardsman.
Accepted he served in that service Feb. - July or 1942, when the Coast Guard had enough Cutter service and manpower to phase out the civilian volunteers.

Kid, sorry, the 32 pistol bullet is 0.312 for jacketed and most of us run 0.314 for cast in the 32 S&W aka short but not part of the original name, The SW long, the H&R 32 mag that I shoot with the so called Ruger only loads which is pretty much the same as the 327 Smith round, long story but part of the problem they made a cluster mess at first and the factory 32 mag originally called H&R is loaded to 38 pressure and with my single six, not single 7 because they added a round, but mine has thicker wall in the cylinder than a super Black Hawk and when Ruger added it know what could be done and reading what some of the gurus were doing with it, aka gun writers that were real gun writers.   I chomped at the bit for just a few years, having 2 young children kinda slowed things down.  In 88 I got a Christmas bonus big enough to cover one besides making above average wages for the time and even told the wife that was all I really needed and bought the pistol, the dies and a friend found 200 cases at a gun show and I was off and running.   Had some 32 Long brass I got cheap for plinkers but didn't  last as long as the Federal mag brass and then Starline brought out 32 mag and it was cheaper and lasted even longer but either brand corrosion and plain losing is my biggest enemy, the Federal I have most of it but since it is really old instead of sorta old I use it for plinkers and most of the original 200 are still around although Dad bought one which mom gave the nephew on his 21st birthday with the approval of his 2 girl cousins, his dad and uncle, mom asked and we all thought it was right because he spent his summer vacations with Grandpa after he had the heart attack.  That way Dad could go to the farm with out severe worry on the rest of us because grandpa had a cell phone and like all of us the kid learned to drive when he could reach the pedals and the 4 wheeler earlier.

Yacked to long but the 32 Special uses a 0.321 bullet like the 32-40 and the 8mm is a hair to big in jacketed.  32 auto uses the same as that line of 32s but lighter and the 32 Colt and long use 0.299.

Did that all with out looking it up, all the long term memory came back with some extra, remembered a poem about fall and asters from 3rd grade the other day, wife almost dumped me on the side of the road.   Short term is getting better but the coffee cup is the biggest problem, got two alike I keep out and more for back up if needed, but have only lost one at a time the last couple weeks.

Went back on hydrocodone Dr gave me my choice, advantage of being old and sober 37 years, could have had better, but 1-4 a day every 6 hours and a cup of coffee keeps me mostley pain free and awake, not driving again for safety.  MRI with contrast Thursday, problally if we are right a minor scope back surgery to remove what is likely a build up in the siatic nerve hole in spine, very new surgery report for cuzzin says he went home the next day and feels better than in years, he retired at 62 because of it.

Tomorrow is the endoscope for the hiatal hernia, fix may be then and there, may be a scope surgery or maybe more, and maybe not at all, know more later.

Friend wanted to learn, ran the black R2D2 looking smoker yesterday for first time in 3 years, went well, hardwood smoke did not re4ally bother me, pine does even 500-600 miles away.  We just used charcoal and the dead twigs on my backyard pin oak, had to fight the dog he wanted our sticks.  Will try to get the kids to cut me some short stuff, likely mulberry when they cut wood this fall, also thinking why not manually feed it pellet grill pellets.   Those things are kinda like 6.5 Creedmoores, useful but only Yuppies and Hipsters admit to using them. ;D  If you don't know why it's a long story but a fun thing for us old pharts with nothing to do but be old pharts picking on the youngsters a noble occupation for us semi useless old guys.  Got a nice message from a younger fella in Oakland yesterday telling me to never stop, I remind him of his grandpa, teases and teaches at the same time, love those type messages in secret.
