SASS default is to load no more than 2, but many clubs including most around here,  state "87's and 97's may be stoked on the clock" in the stage instructions.

1887's were certainly having their moment in the Arizona territory back in the days of yore...

Fun thread. Tempting to try one of the recent Cimarrons.

Go for it, I really like mine.

I believe Cimarron has both 20" and 26" '87's in stock right now.

I pushed for that for years with the clubs I shot at, to no avail. Tests run showed there was little time difference between loading under the clock and loading two at a time.
Ride to the sound of the guns, but watch out for bushwhackers! Godspeed to all in harm's way in the defense of Freedom! God Bless America!

Tuesday I picked up a brand new not shiny but mat finished Cimarron 1887 12 Guage 26 inch cylinder bored shotgun.  Thursday went to Ben Avery for a round of sporting clays.  First station got both the first 2 birds report pair, got the 2nd Bird on the 2nd report pair and got both birds on the double pair. So yes it is possible to shoot doubles using an 1887.  If I can do it anyone can as I am only about a 50% shooter on a good day. This being the first time the gun was fired I ran a test using factory loads to check ejection. I was using 1 1/8 federals which the gun loves they eject just fine. I also used 1 1/8 inch translucent fiocchi translucent shells which the gun does not like at all.  About 50 percent of the fiocchi would not extract, had to demount gun and use both hands to open action.  Got so bad when using fiocchi I started shooting not report pairs but on extraction and ejection send second bird.  Could shot doubles if the first shell was a federal and the second was the fiocchi as it mattered not if it extracted or ejected.  To be fair I managed to get a couple of the Fiocchi shells to eject.  They do not eject from my Old Lassiterized drop 2 20 inch 87.  Fiocchi shells are just a tiny bit longer than other shells like win, remington or federal.  Next trip I will used roll crimp reloads like I primarily shoot from the old 87.

The Cimarron gun works just fine out of the box.  There is a hole in the rear of the trigger guard and a hook on the trigger that acts as an action lock when the trigger is pulled the hook engages the hole holding the lever in place. When shooting an 87 you need to work the lever with vigor to get certain ejection.  The gun feeds perfectly from the magazine.  I am sure Lassiter and Slater can work magic on the Cimarron and make it a lot slicker.  I might send it home from EOT with Lassiter to slick but not drop 2 mod as I may get bitten by the Wild Bunch Bug and think the 87 would be a hoot to shoot.

I might get screw in flush mount inter-changeable chokes installed somewhere along the line but might just wait for the 30 inch barreled model to become available to the chokes installed.  Yes I am a masochist apparently having more money than sense with a penchant for 87s
