I just caught the trailer for the new Lone Ranger. Looks pretty good. Says its release is July of 2013.

I thought that this movie was already out.

I must confess I was dubious about wanting to see this at first but the trailer seems encouraging.
A work in progress.

Yup, I thought it would be some kind of joke, but when I saw the trailer, I found out otherwise. Looking forward to checking this one out!

The trailer looks like an ad for Hell on Wheels, didn't let us know it was the Lone Ranger until over half way through. I can't say it did anything for me as I'm not enamored with Johnny Depp. He would be better off portraying a a clown. He probably won't help the movie any for me. Guess I'm more than a little disappointed in what appears to be another Hollywierd movie depiction of an iconic character from the past.

I think it's going to be better, and more like most of the movies nowadays about heroes where it's how hey became what they were

I watched the trailer and have mixed feelings. Does it look realistic?.....NO! Does it look like it might be fun and entertaining?...Yeah, sure. The problem I have is Johnny Depp. I feel like this movie is going to be Captain Jack Sparrow meets the wild west.  :-\

There should be no reason to expect realism or authenticity.  Look at what the movie is based on.  A larger-than-life B-Western hero who shoots guns out of people's hands and always wins the day.  I expect it to be pure entertainment, with a lot of humor and over-the-top action and special effects.  Looking forward to it.  :)

I found both Cowboys and Aliens and Django entertaining and look forward to see Johnny Depp play Tanto.

Westerns are rarely truly historical.  If they get the guns right that's 75% of the way to keeping me happy.  The other 25% is good scenery, a pretty girl, and the bad guys getting smoked in the end.

just got in from seeing the lone ranger.  not too bad. lots of special effects action and comedy. don't go in there expecting to see a authenic western, cuz its not. but it was worth seeing in my opinion

So it will have lots of computer-generated special effects and Johnnie Depp doing his clown routine.  Roger, got it.

But one of the things that the old Clayton Moore - Jay Silverheels version was known for, was the portrayal of decency and good values.  Each episode was a little morality play completed in 30 minutes (including commercial breaks).  The relevant question in my mind. is whether this new movie continues in that vein, or is simply another mindless formula movie.
